Christian Pulisic Clarifies World Cup Injury 'I Didn't Get Hit In The Balls'

Published | Updated

U.S. soccer superstar Christian Pulisic wants everyone to know his gonads are perfectly intact ... telling reporters his World Cup injury was legitimately a "pelvic contusion" -- and not a made-up term for sore testicles.

Pulisic was injured after colliding with Iran's goalkeeper during his game-winning goal for Team USA on Tuesday ... forcing him to miss the second half of the match.

The 24-year-old midfielder was hospitalized after the contest ... but updated his supporters with a selfie, saying he'd be ready to take the pitch on Saturday against the Netherlands.

Based on the area of contact during the incident, many believed Christian's "pelvic contusion" diagnosis was just a code word for getting hit in the family jewels ... but now, all that speculation can be put to rest.

"I didn't get hit in the balls," Christian said with a laugh. "I'm alright. It was very painful. That bone is there for a reason to protect you and I hit it well. I was sore."

Christian says he's still taking it one day at a time ... but is doing "everything in my power" to be back in time for Saturday's match.

Ice up, Christian!!

Gaylord Perry MLB Legend ... Dead At 84

Published | Updated

Gaylord Perry -- the legendary MLB pitcher who won two Cy Young Awards in his career -- has died.

The Hall of Famer sadly passed away at his home in Gaffney, SC on Thursday morning of natural causes, the Cherokee County Coroner said. He was 84 years old.

Perry made his MLB debut with the San Francisco Giants back in 1962 -- and quickly became an ace, making an All-Star Game in 1966. He gained national fame for throwing spitballs ... and later used the baseball-doctoring technique to help him throw a no-hitter in 1968.

Perry went on to win the Cy Young Award in the American League with Cleveland in 1972, and then in the National League with the San Diego Padres in 1978.

He was the first pitcher ever to earn the honor in both leagues.

Perry finished his 22-year career with a 314-265 record, 3.11 ERA and 3,534 strikeouts. He was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1991.

Following his playing career, he became the baseball coach at Limestone College in Gaffney. He eventually retired from the role in '91.

Hall of Fame pitcher Fergie Jenkins remembered him as "a great friend and a great teammate" following the news of his death on Thursday.

"My thoughts go out to the Perry family," Jenkins said. "We’ll miss you Gaylord."

RIP.

Jerry Stackhouse Ejected From Vanderbilt Game ... After Going Off On Referees

Published | Updated

Vanderbilt head coach Jerry Stackhouse was ejected after completely going off on referees during their game on Wednesday ... so bad that he had to be escorted off the court by security!!

The former NBA star -- who started coaching Vandy in 2019 -- went berserk after his center Liam Robbins received a tech for tapping his head while celebrating a dunk in the 2nd half of their away game at VCU.

You can see Stackhouse furiously calling out the refs over the call ... receiving a tech for the blowup, which of course pissed him off even more.

That's when Stackhouse got in referee Bart Lennox's face right in the middle of the court ... and it got so intense that Vandy's coaching staff had to restrain him.

That was enough to get Stackhouse ejected ... and escorted to the locker room by security.

The 48-year-old spoke about the incident during his postgame press conference ... saying the officials need to do better overall.

"I thought tonight's game was poorly officiated," Stackhouse said.

BLAME THE REFS

"Kids gon make gestures during the course of the game when they have big plays. I felt like that was one that shouldn't have been called on my guy at that juncture in the game."

To make matters worse, the Commodores lost 70-65 to the Rams ... but Stackhouse isn't placing the blame at his player's feet.

"I don't think that tonight's loss was self-inflicted. I felt like this was a poorly officiated game, and they need to be better."

Before becoming a college basketball coach, Stackhouse played 18 seasons in the NBA where he was a 2x NBA All-Star.

Lakers Second Fan Nails Half-Court Shot ... Makes $25k!!!

MONEY SHOT

The Lakers might need to switch up their promotional giveaways at this point ... 'cause yet another fan sank a half-court shot at Wednesday's game -- resulting in a $25,000 payday!!

The unbelievable moment went down during a break in the action at Crypto.com Arena ... when the man selected for the MGM Rewards Big Shot Jackpot pulled up from deep -- and drained the shot!!

The dude fell to his knees to soak in the moment ... before getting back up and hyping the crowd.

It's a helluva shot, but it's even more insane considering what went down at Tuesday's game.

Remember, a fan went ballistic just two days ago after succeeding in the same challenge ... which came with a fat $75k check. The bucket had the Lakers players going wild ... with Anthony Davis giving the guy a big hug.

The probability of this happening AGAIN is so slim ... especially when most participants can't even make it to the end of the court, let alone come close to nailing the shot.

The scoring continued for LeBron James and Co. ... with the Purple & Gold running away with the 128-109 win over the Portland Trail Blazers.

Maybe switch it up to full-court shots???

LeBron James Goes Off On Reporters ... Why No Kyrie-Like Reaction To Jerry Jones Photo?!?

Published | Updated

LeBron James went after media members following the Lakers' win on Wednesday night ... blasting them for not asking about the racial controversy engulfing Jerry Jones -- while wondering why they were so "quick to ask us questions" about the Kyrie Irving drama earlier this year.

The NBA star unleashed the scolding unprompted after reporters had just finished peppering him with questions about L.A.'s 128-109 victory over the Portland Trail Blazers.

"I got one question for you guys before you guys leave," the 37-year-old said. "I was thinking when I was on my way over here, I was wondering why I haven't gotten a question from you guys about the Jerry Jones photo."

Of course, 'Bron is referring to the 1957 picture that resurfaced last week ... showing the Dallas Cowboys owner as a teenager standing with a group of white classmates who were trying to prevent six Black students from entering an Arkansas school.

"When the Kyrie [Irving] thing was going on, you guys were quick to ask us questions about that," James said ... before continuing, "When I watch Kyrie talk and he says, 'I know who I am, but I want to keep the same energy when we're talking about my people and the things that we've been through,' and that Jerry Jones photo is one of those moments that our people, Black people, have been through in America."

"And I feel like as a Black man, as a Black athlete, as someone with power and a platform, when we do something wrong, or something that people don't agree with, it's on every single tabloid, every single news coverage, it's on the bottom ticker. It's asked about every single day."

As you know, Kyrie came under fire earlier this month after he tweeted out a link to an antisemitic film. He refused to apologize for it for days ... and, as a result, the Brooklyn Nets guard was suspended for eight games. LeBron addressed the issue multiple times, saying his former Cavaliers teammate "caused some harm to a lot of people" ... but claimed the punishment was excessive.

Jones, meanwhile, has been under siege the last few days ... after The Washington Post published the controversial photo of him last week. The 80-year-old, though, has avoided any punishment from the NFL ... while denying any participation in barring the black students from the school. He said he was simply a curious observer.

MORE SERIOUS MATTERS

He added during a Monday radio interview, "I think the key thing is, for me, is that it's a misread if you think that I don't recognize how monumental those days were."

James was famously a huge fan of the Cowboys ... but said in October he stopped being a fan because of Jones' stance on kneeling during the national anthem.

Terry Bradshaw 'The Bradshaw Bunch' Won't Return ... Because of 2nd Cancer Diagnosis

Published | Updated

Terry Bradshaw's family show, "The Bradshaw Bunch," won't be returning for a 3rd season, TMZ has learned, and the reason has to do with Terry's health.

Production sources tell TMZ ... the E! show was renewed for a third season and filming was supposed to begin last March, but around that time Terry informed producers he had a serious health condition, which demanded his full attention.

At the time, we're told Terry didn't give specifics on his diagnosis but he let producers know he couldn't move forward with the show. In the end, our sources say the Bradshaws and E! mutually decided to not go forward with the series. The network has never disclosed the show was canceled.

Last month, Terry revealed on NFL on FOX he went in for an MRI for what he thought were neck issues ... and that's when doctors discovered a tumor and diagnosed him with Merkel cell carcinoma -- a rare, aggressive form of skin cancer.

Terry had been diagnosed with bladder cancer in November 2021, during the airing of the second season of the show.

The series, which was filmed at the family's ranch in Oklahoma, was centered around the 4-time Super Bowl champ, his wife Tammy and their 3 daughters.

Today, Terry is cancer-free, which is fantastic. Nevertheless, the show won't be coming back, but that's not the important thing ... the fact Terry has rebounded is awesome!

Prince William & Kate Holding Court at Celtics Game ... Collision Course with Harry & Meghan Doc

Published | Updated

Prince William and Kate Middleton spent their first night in the U.S. at a Celtics game, as one Royal controversy has exploded and another is on the way.

The Duke & Duchess of Cambridge were front and center at the Celtics game Wednesday night against the Miami Heat -- they're in town for Friday's Earthshot Prize Awards Ceremony ... created by William to find solutions for global warming.

william kate celtics booed
UNROYAL WELCOME

When they popped up on the jumbotron, there was a smattering ... maybe more than a smattering of boos. Now we all know that's the way Boston fans roll, but their appearance came just hours after William's Godmother, Lady Susan Hussey, stepped down from her Royal duties after asking some racist questions at an event.

And, then there's Harry and Meghan ... hours after the game Netflix dropped a trailer for their upcoming documentary, and it's clear as day they're going after the fam. Harry says, "No one sees what goes on behind closed doors. I had to do everything I could to protect my family."

The two brothers will NOT see each other during William's 3-day stay in the States. So much for a reconciliation after the Queen's death.

The timing couldn't be worse for the Royals ... the Lady Hussey scandal brought racist allegations back to the forefront, and the "Harry & Meghan" doc will almost certainly stoke those flames.

Kyrie Irving Antisemitic Film Not Coming Down ... Says Amazon CEO

Published | Updated

The controversial, antisemitic film Kyrie Irving shared on Twitter -- "Hebrews to Negroes: Wake Up Black America!" -- is not being removed from Amazon ... says company CEO Andy Jassy.

"As a retailer of content to hundreds of millions of customers with a lot of different viewpoints, we have to allow access to those viewpoints, even if they are objectionable — objectionable and they differ from our particular viewpoints, Jassy said, who is Jewish, at The New York Times' DealBook Summit in New York City.

Jassy's comments come in the face of the retail giant facing public backlash for still carrying the book and film on its platform, which Irving shared last month.

"The reality is that we have very expansive customer reviews," he continued ... "For books with a lot of attention — especially public attention — customers do a good job monitoring other people."

Jassy told the New York Times it's a slippery slope when deciding what type of content should no longer be sold on the platform ... adding instances where violence or pedophilia is being encouraged is more "straightforward."

Of course, Jassy's comments aren't going to sit well with Jonathan Greenblatt, CEO of the Anti-Defamation League (ADL), who publicly campaigned for Amazon to join Barnes & Noble in taking the book/film down.

According to the Associated Press, Amazon said they would look into adding a disclaimer on the documentary's page. However, that has yet to happen.

Muhammad Ali's Grandson PFL's Biaggio Ali Walsh ... I Was Born To Fight!

Published | Updated

Biaggio Ali Walsh was nothing short of dominant in his PFL debut ... though, the rising MMA star isn't really surprised, because he believes he was born to fight!

"I truly believe that I was born to do this. I believe that me and my brother [Nico] both were destined to be in combat sports. Regardless of who our grandfather is or not, I feel like we were born to fight. I do want to do this. I'm all in," the 24-year-old told Babcock when he joined the "TMZ Sports" TV show (airs nightly on FS1).

If you missed it -- possible if you blinked -- Biaggo pummeled fellow amateur fighter, Tom Graesser, during the Professional Fighters League Season Championship event on Friday ... taking just 45 seconds to KO his opponent.

Graesser was Ali Walsh's first fight with the promotion (and his 3rd overall). Biaggio knows he's fairly new to the sport, but wholeheartedly believes he's going to be champion.

"I do see myself having the belt and holding a million-dollar check sometime in my career. I don't know how I'll get there or when it'll happen. I just know that at some point in my life, I'm going to have that belt around my waist, and I'm going to hold that check."

Speaking of grandpa, we asked Ali Walsh how Muhammad Ali would've felt watching his grandson fight (and at Madison Square Garden, where Ali fought in several historic events).

"He would have told me he was proud of me. He acknowledges the fact that me and my brother have to deal with the pressure of who he was and what he stood for. He would just say he's proud of me and that would mean the world and I know he's watching and I know he is proud of me, so I'm happy for that."

As for when he'll fight again, Biaggio says he's already back in the gym in Las Vegas, training for his next fight.

"Some fighters will take some time off. They take a week, a couple weeks off. I'm completely injury-free right now, thank God. I went right back to the gym this morning. I'm going to go back to the gym this afternoon. I'm just going to keep the train rolling. I'm ready to hop back into a camp whenever I need to. First, I have to obviously find out when I'm fighting, but I'd like to fight sometime early next year."

Floyd Mayweather Spends $1.7 Million At Miami Art Show ... Warhol, Calder, Robert Indiana

Published | Updated
UPDATE

6:05 PM PT -- Floyd Mayweather isn't just figuratively burning cash (he's got it) at Art Basel in Miami ... the 50-0 fighter, after dropping over $3 million Tuesday night, just spent another $1.7 million on art at the famed festival, including taking home 4 Andy Warhol pieces and a large sculpture of burned money, sources tell TMZ Sports.

UPDATE

We're told Mayweather paid on the spot before taking the artwork back to his Miami mansion.

UPDATE
UPDATE

In addition to the Warhols, we're told Money copped Robert Indiana and Alexander Calder pieces, too.

UPDATE

As for the money sculpture, it's a giant stack of burned $100 U.S. bills ... along with a red Supreme duffel bag full of cash.

UPDATE

Floyd's been livin' it up in Miami. After dropping $3.1 mil last night, he, along with friends like Jas Mathur and "The GOAT" docuseries collaborators James McNair, Deon Taylor and Jona Rechnitz hit up an Art Basel event where they partied with stars including Odell Beckham Jr.

Floyd Mayweather was in the mood to shop ... so the 50-0 boxing superstar just spent $3.1 MILLION in about 60 minutes, taking about a dozen fancy/expensive pieces of art off the wall at the SCOPE Art Show in Miami, sources tell TMZ Sports.

Mayweather, along with billionaire Robert Smith, an investor in Floyd’s "The GOAT" docuseries, and friends Jona Rechnitz, James McNair and Jas Mathur linked up for a shopping spree. They're in south Florida for Art Basel.

It's unclear exactly what Floyd purchased ... but we're told it was between 10 and 12 pieces, totaling around $3.1 million.

Of course, Art Basel routinely draws some of the biggest celebrities and athletes in the world. In fact, on Tuesday, stars like Leonardo DiCaprio, Martha Stewart, Amar'e Stoudemire and Sylvester Stallone, in addition to TBE, were in the building.

But, there's a good chance none spent more than Floyd.

And, it doesn't sound like he's done just yet ... we're told Mayweather's set to attend another show tomorrow -- and don't be surprised if he makes another big purchase.

Yasiel Puig Reverses Course ... Pleads Not Guilty To Lying In Illegal Gambling Case

Published

Yasiel Puig will not plead guilty to lying to the feds during their investigation of an illegal gambling ring after all.

The former MLB star announced on Wednesday he's now pleading not guilty in the case -- saying in a statement, "I want to clear my name."

"I never should have agreed to plead guilty to a crime I did not commit," he added.

As we reported, Puig had initially agreed to plead guilty to one count of making false statements ... after federal prosecutors accused him of lying about participating in an illegal gambling business during an interview earlier this year.

Puig hoped to avoid jail time with the plea deal ... but now, he's decided to fight the charge and faces up to five years in prison if convicted.

Puig's attorney, Keri Axel of Waymaker LLP, said the course reversal came following the reveal of "significant new evidence" ... explaining that during Puig's interview with the feds, he was in essentially no condition to properly answer their questions.

"At the time of his January 2022 interview, Mr. Puig, who has a third-grade education, had untreated mental-health issues, and did not have his own interpreter or criminal legal counsel with him,'' Axel said.

"We have reviewed the evidence, including significant new information, and have serious concerns about the allegations made against Yasiel.''

Puig -- who's now playing baseball in South Korea after seven seasons in the MLB -- added in a Tweet late Wednesday afternoon, "All my life's I been told to be quiet and do what I was told. No mores."

BROTHERLY NICKNAME

Patrick Mahomes is giving some insight into how his baby son got the unique "Bronze" nickname ... saying it's all thanks to his little brother, Jackson.

The Kansas City Chiefs superstar spoke with reporters for the first time since the newest Mahomes was born earlier this week ... and he explained how if he ever had a son, he wanted him to be Patrick Lavon Mahomes III.

But, instead of giving the kid a traditional nickname like "Trey," Patrick said he wanted to go for something different ... and it was his TikTok star brother who came through with the idea.

Waiting for your permission to load the Instagram Media.

"My brother Jackson, whenever we were trying to find something that was a little unique and different, he said, 'What about Bronze? It fits perfectly with Sterling,'" Mahomes told the media on Wednesday. "So, we went with that."

"It works out well," he added. "He can have his own thing now where he's not Patrick, he's Bronze, even though he's Patrick. And, Sterling and Bronze can have that connection moving forward."

It's a nice thought to give Bronze his own identity ... but let's be honest, we all know he's gonna be Patrick's son -- at least, for a couple decades!

UF QB Jalen Kitna Jon Kitna's Son ... Arrested For Possession Of Child Porn

Published | Updated
UPDATE

1:53 PM PT -- The Gainesville Police Dept. says it executed a search warrant on Wednesday at Jalen Kitna's Florida residence after it received a tip that a Discord user had distributed "an image of child sexual abuse material" through the social media messaging platform.

UPDATE

According to cops, an investigation revealed that the account belonged to Kitna ... and an additional image, making two total, had actually been distributed from it.

UPDATE

Cops say when they made contact with Kitna at the residence, he told them he "remembered sharing the two images but believed them to be 'legal,' since he found them online."

UPDATE

Police say Kitna admitted he should not have shared the photos.

UPDATE

Cops claim as part of the search warrant, Kitna's electronic devices were seized -- and they say that an ensuing search revealed the Florida Gators football player was in possession of three additional images of child sexual abuse material. They arrested him and booked him on five charges -- two counts of distribution of child exploitation material and three counts of possession of child pornography -- a short time later.

UPDATE

1:33 PM PT -- The Gators just addressed the arrest ... saying Jalen Kitna has been suspended indefinitely from the team.

UPDATE

"We are shocked and saddened to hear of the news involving Jalen Kitna," the statement reads. "These are extremely serious charges and the University of Florida and the UAA have zero tolerance for such behavior. Jalen has been suspended indefinitely from the football program."

UPDATE

1:14 PM PT -- A spokesperson for the Gainesville Police Dept. tells TMZ Sports ... Jalen Kitna was booked on five separate charges -- two counts of distribution of child exploitation material and three counts of possession of child pornography.

Florida Gators quarterback Jalen Kitna -- the son of ex-NFL star Jon Kitna -- was arrested in Florida on Wednesday, TMZ Sports has learned.

The 19-year-old was just booked into jail minutes ago -- at around 3:20 PM ET.

Further details surrounding his arrest were not made immediately available.

Jalen -- a touted recruit out of Burleson H.S. in Texas -- committed to the Gators in 2020. He joined the team in 2021, and redshirted. He saw his first on-the-field action this season, making his debut against Eastern Washington in October.

In total, he's appeared in four games for UF -- with his best performance coming against EWU, when he threw for 152 yards and a touchdown.

There had been speculation he could start the team's bowl game later this year if Anthony Richardson, a coveted NFL draft prospect, opts out of the postseason contest.

Jalen's father, Jon Kitna, played for the Cincinnati Bengals, Dallas Cowboys, Detroit Lions and Seattle Seahawks over the course of his career ... and was named the 2003 Comeback Player of the Year. He threw for nearly 30,000 yards and had 169 touchdowns in 14 seasons.

Report: 27-Year-Old Iranian Man Shot In Head, Killed By Security Forces ... For Celebrating Iran's World Cup Loss To U.S.

Published | Updated

A 27-year-old Iranian man was reportedly killed by state security forces Tuesday night after he was shot in the head for honking a horn in celebration of Iran's defeat in the World Cup.

According to multiple reports, including from the Iran Human Rights NGO, Mehran Samak was killed by government agents after he joined dozens of other demonstrators on the streets in Bandar-e Anzali, a city in northern Iran, in protest of the regime's abysmal human rights record.

Samak was sitting in a car next to his fiancée when a security officer walked up and shot him, according to Iran International.

After he was hit, Samrak was reportedly rushed to a local hospital, but was pronounced dead shortly after arriving.

The United States beat Iran in a thrilling 1-0 game on Tuesday ... slamming the door on the middle eastern nation's hopes of advancing to the knockout stage.

Despite the Iranian regime's oppressive nature, protests have steadily broken out since September ... when 22-year-old Mahsa Amini died three days after being arrested in the nation's capital of Tehran for allegedly violating the Islamic dress code.

The protests quickly broadened to include the general rights of the country's citizens. Over 400 people have been killed for participating in the protests, according to a human rights org.

Mehran Samak was reportedly laid to rest Wednesday morning. BBC Persia posted a video the outlet says is from the funeral service. Mourners were heard yelling, "You are the filth, you are the immoral, I am a free woman," a phrase BBC says has been used frequently during the unrest.

Given the tense situation inside the country, the players -- caught in between the government and its citizens -- have faced incredible pressure.

Prior to Iran's first W.C. match against England, players didn't sing the national anthem. But, that lasted just one game after the players were reportedly threatened by the government, where players were essentially warned ... sing or face possible retribution.

Now, as the team returns home, there are fears players and/or people close to them could face harm.

Kris Letang NHL Star Suffers Stroke ... Out Indefinitely

Published

Pittsburgh Penguins defenseman Kris Letang -- one of the biggest stars in the NHL -- has suffered a stroke ... and will now be off the ice indefinitely, his team announced Wednesday.

General manager Ron Hextall said Letang was diagnosed with the stroke on Monday after suffering symptoms. The GM called the news "shocking" -- but added the 35-year-old is currently in good spirits.

"We are grateful that Kris is doing well," Hextall said. "We are thankful to the medical staff and the physicians at UPMC."

Letang -- who previously suffered a stroke in 2014 and missed over two months of that season -- has now been ruled out of Penguins games for the foreseeable future.

"He is a warrior on the ice," Hextall added, "but first and foremost, he is a son, father, husband and friend. His health is our number one priority."

Added Letang, "I am fortunate to know my body well enough to recognize when something isn't right."

"While it is difficult to navigate this issue publicly, I am hopeful it can raise awareness. It is important for me that my teammates, family and the fans know that I am okay. I am optimistic that I will be back on the ice soon."

Letang has played in 21 games this season, logging one goal and 11 assists.

In his career, he's made two All-Star teams ... and has won the Stanley Cup two times.
