Danny Duffy KC Royals Pitcher Busted for DUI ... at Burger King

Published | Updated

Kansas City Royals pitcher Danny Duffy -- the best pitcher on the team -- was busted for DUI in Kansas on Sunday ... at a Burger King.

Here's what we know ... 28-year-old Duffy was pulled over in Overland Park in his 2015 black Escalade around 7:35 PM and the officer suspected he was driving under the influence.

But we're told in Kansas, drunk driving doesn't mean you're automatically locked up. An Overland Park city official tells us suspected DUI offenders can be cited and picked up by a friend ... and that's exactly what happened with Duffy.

The Royals played earlier that day -- and lost -- but Danny didn't play, he was placed on the disabled list on Saturday for an elbow injury.

He's due back in court on Sept. 19.

Duffy is a big deal -- he was part of the World Series team in 2015 and signed a 5-year, $65 million extension this past January.

We reached out to a rep for Duffy who had no comment.

CFL Team Blasts Art Briles Hiring 'Large and Serious Mistake'

Published | Updated

The CFL team that hired (and then fired) disgraced ex-Baylor coach Art Briles is calling the whole situation a "large and serious mistake" ... and they're apologizing to their fans.

The Hamilton Tiger-Cats initially hired Briles as an offensive coordinator -- only to let him go less than 24 hours later after talking it over with the league.

Briles oversaw the Baylor football program during a period in which investigators say people who accused the players of sexual assault were retaliated against by school officials. Briles denied wrongdoing.

Still, the Tiger-Cats say looking back ... they shouldn't have even considered hiring the guy.

"We made a large and serious mistake. We want to apologize to our fans, corporate partners and the Canadian Football League."

"It has been a difficult season and we are searching for answers. This is clearly not one of them."

"We have listened, we are reviewing our decision-making processes and we will learn. We will go on. We want to thank our fans, partners and the CFL for their help and support.”

Back to the drawing board for Briles ...

WE'RE IN TALKS

Some good news, bad news for Cleveland fans ...

Good news ... Dwyane Wade tells TMZ Sports he's been talking with LeBron James and is planning to meet with him THIS WEEK.

Bad news ... he's playing it VERY coy about rumors he's leaving Chicago for the Cavs.

Wade had just arrived at LAX after his big European vacation (he asked if we liked his tan!) ... and that's when we asked about his NBA future.

"We text each other," Wade said about LeBron -- but when we asked if he was gonna join him next season he told us, "I'm gonna join him at dinner this week somewhere."

For Wade to land with the Cavs, he would have to negotiate a buyout with the Bulls that could cost him millions of dollars.

So, if Bron's serious about bringing him on ... maybe James should pay for dinner?

'The Hills' Frankie Delgado Stopped by Cops at Fight Night VIP ... 'Memba Me??!!

Published | Updated

Frankie Delgado isn't quite the famous face he used to be, and cops had to step in when the former reality star tried to get through VIP at the Mayweather/McGregor fight.

The incident went down when the ex-'Hills' star tried breezing past security Saturday night outside the VIP entrance to T-Mobile Arena. Our law enforcement sources tell us Frankie tried to walk in without showing credentials, and ignored security's objections.

Witnesses tell us he never used the words, but his attitude reeked of "You know who I am."

A Las Vegas PD Sergeant stepped in to stop Frankie while security sorted out the matter. The tense moment was captured in this photo, and despite how it looks ... everything worked out for Frankie.

Someone eventually confirmed he was on the list, and he watched the fight from VIP.

Fun fact: Frankie's still A-list at huge events! We underestimated "The Hills."

Art Briles Booted From CFL Coaching Job

Published | Updated

Well, that was quick ...

Art Briles' stint as an offensive coordinator for the CFL's Hamilton Tiger-Cats is already over -- after the team and the league decided getting into bed with the disgraced former Baylor coach was a bad idea.

The CFL and Ticats issued a joint statement saying "Art Briles will no longer be joining the Hamilton Tiger-Cats as a coach. We came to this decision this evening following a lengthy discussion between the league and the Hamilton organization. We wish Mr. Briles all the best in his future endeavors."

Briles oversaw the football program during the biggest scandal in the history of the program -- when investigators found that people who accused football players of sexual assault were retaliated against by school officials.

Briles has denied any wrongdoing -- but the P.R. hit appeared too much for the Ticats and the CFL to stomach.
