Joey Chestnut is a rank, out-of-shape amateur when it comes to eating the dog ... so scoffs Kobayashi.

The Japanese competitive eater was in NYC Thursday when our photog asked if he could be the reigning Coney Island hot dog champ, and Kobayashi is downright dismissive.

Fact is ... he says he holds the record -- 69 dogs.

Kobayashi -- who's expanding his horizons by eating dogs this weekend at the same time he plays ping pong -- won't be competing this July 4th at the Nathan's Famous Hot Dog Contest in Coney Island. He's been in a contract dispute with them since 2009.

LeBron James and Dwyane Wade have reunited ... all aboard an insane $29 MILLION yacht in the Bahamas ... TMZ Sports has learned.

James and his wife, Savannah -- along with Wade and Gabrielle Union -- have been staying on a yacht called the Just J's ... a top of the line ship built in 2011 ... and owned by billionaire businessman Jay Schottenstein.

Jay is big in the Ohio community ... so is LeBron (duh) -- so we're guessing that's how they know each other.

The boat is MASSIVE -- 150 feet long ... with 5 cabins, a sick bar, fancy dining room and a hot tub.

Sources tell us ... the ballers have been hanging out on land too -- recently gambling at the Atlantis casino. We're told the gang ran into Mike Tyson, who was celebrating his birthday, and they partied together.

Pretty cool, right?

John Elway still has it ... and he proved this past weekend by crushing his celebrity competition at a super fancy golf tourney event in Bel-Air ... TMZ Sports has learned.

Elway paired up with golfer J.J. Dudum for a special tournament at the Bel-Air Country Club last weekend ... where they faced off against other stars like Billy Bush, ex-NBC honcho Ben Silverman and fashion mogul Mossimo Giannulli.

Fun Fact -- Mossimo (the guy behind the Mossimo fashion line) is married to "Full House" star Lori Loughlin.

The good news for Elway ... he beat all of their brains out -- and people at the tourney tell us EVERYONE was impressed with the NFL legend's skills on the links.

At the end of the tourney, Elway and Dudum won the whole thing and #7 got himself another trophy for the case.

Diddy just got a huge break ... TMZ has learned the L.A. County D.A. has rejected the case, meaning he will not be charged with a felony, but Diddy is not out of the woods just yet.

We've learned the case will be referred to the L.A. City Attorney, which could file misdemeanor charges against the mogul.

TMZ broke the story, Diddy was arrested last month after getting into a fight with his son's UCLA football strength and conditioning coach. UCLA cops arrested him for felony aggravated assault and making terrorist threats.

The D.A. disposed of the case in a day, meaning it was a weak felony charge. Now the City Attorney must decide if it warrants prosecution for a lesser offense, most likely misdemeanor assault.

Shaq may not drive it straight, but he hits it hard ... a lesson a golf fan learned the hard way Wednesday ... telling TMZ Sports the NBA legend smashed a tee shot directly into his shoulder at a golf tourney.

Big Aristotle let it rip at the 8th hole of the Greenbrier Classic Pro-Am in West Virginia ... and shanked a line drive into a spectator -- Mike Cunningham -- who attended the tourney to see O'Neal.

"Shaq rolled up in his golf cart and asked who he hit," Cunningham tells us, "He walked up to me and asked to give me a hug."

The fan says Shaq apologized several times ... and the two hugged it out.

"He was totally cool."

So, what does it feel like to be hit by a ball from a MASSIVE 7'1", 330+ lb. person?

"It didn't feel good."

Worth it though for a cool moment from one of his favorite athletes of all time.

It's the end of an era in the NBA ... 'cause Cavs star Iman Shumpert just ditched his signature Gumby-style high top cut ... for a brand new dreaded up man bun.

Shumpert was out in L.A. with his pop star girlfriend Teyana Taylor when we noticed that he didn't bring something with him on his trip to the coast ... his one-of-a-kind hair.

L.A. Kings star Slava Voynov has been sentenced to 90 days in jail in his domestic violence case.

Voynov was initially charged with felony corporal injury to a spouse stemming from an October 2014 incident at their home in Redondo Beach.

But in what amounts as a victory for Slava, he was able to strike a deal with prosecutors in which the felony was reduced to a misdemeanor, in part, due to a biomechanical engineer who said Slava's wife's injuries appeared to have been the result of an accident.

NFL legend Eddie George is all about nipple equality ... telling TMZ Sports he completely supports Chrissy Teigen's war on boob censorship ... because, well, "She's on the right track."

Teigen's tatas have been all over the news ever since she posted topless pics on Instagram -- pics that Instagram took down due to its no female nipple policy.

But George says he agrees with Teigen that women aren't getting treated fairly when it comes to what they can show off in public.

"Hell, if she wants to show her nipples to the world, show the beauty behind it, I'm all for it. Save the nipple."

"Jaws" says he's already began to prep his body for the Nathan's Famous hot dog contest on Coney Island ... where he hopes to defend his title by chowing down more than 60 wieners in 10 minutes.

So what happens when it's time to digest?

"It's not pretty," Chestnut says ... explaining that the post-contest bathroom run is "epic" and "picture worthy."

Hope Jahlil Okafor enjoys public humiliation ... because according to one of his new 76ers teammates, the #3 pick in the draft has some serious hazing coming his way.

We spoke with Philadelphia's Hollis Thompson -- who tells us the team's got some fun stuff in store for the big man ... just like he had to go through when he was a rookie.

FYI -- the NBA hazing isn't too crazy ... Portland made their rookies wear pink Hello Kitty backpacks. Washington made their rooks tie the veteran's shoes. Golden State made their guys do the Gangnam Style dance.

But Thompson says he remembers his own NBA hazing like it was yesterday -- thanks to one former teammate who made him do a ton of "dumb stuff."

NY Knicks honcho Phil Jackson seems to be VERY AMUSED by all the criticism surrounding Kristaps Porzingis -- but says when push comes to shove, the Latvian is a good investment.

Jackson was having dinner with coach Derek Fisher at Ago in West Hollywood last night ... when we brought up the #4 pick in the draft.

Check out the clip ... long story short, Jackson says ... "Porzingis is some stock to invest in."

Fisher agrees -- and says he likes the guy ... and hopes he has a nice long career.

The mother of Doink the Clown's children is suing the WWE -- claiming the former wrestling star suffered serious brain injuries in the ring that led to his death ... and the WWE ignored the problem.

Ole Miss football star Laremy Tunsil -- one of the best players in the country -- allegedly beat up his stepfather so badly, he gave him a black eye and a LUMP on his forehead ... and Tunsil's stepdad says he has the pics to prove it.

TMZ Sports obtained the photos ... which Tunsil's stepdad, Lindsey Miller, says were taken after he was attacked by the 6'5", 315 pound lineman at his home in Mississippi last Thursday.

Tunsil reportedly told his Ole Miss coach that he was protecting his mother after Miller shoved her during an argument ... but Miller says that's a load of crap.

Instead, Miller says he was the real victim -- claiming Tunsil exploded on him for voicing his displeasure about the college star hanging out with sports agents.
