It was a big deal for concession stand employees -- many of whom were counting on the paychecks.

Ironman Triathlon Screwed Athletes Out of Millions ... Government Says

Published | Updated

The company behind the Ironman wasn't just running triathlons ... they were also running a giant scam that screwed athletes out of millions of dollars ... so says the U.S. Government.

Here's the deal ... officials say the World Triathlon Corporation was breaking the law when it charged wannabe triathletes a $50 fee for an entry into a lottery to be selected to participate in an Ironman World Championship race.

Between 2013 and 2015, THOUSANDS of people paid the fee ... in hopes of landing one of the 100 open spots. BTW, if you were selected, you still had to pay an additional $850 entry fee!!

Well, the Department of Justice in Florida believed the scheme violated the state's anti-lottery laws -- which forbids companies from profiting off "illegal gambling businesses."

Now, the government says it has ordered WTC to forfeit all of the proceeds it has earned from the scheme since 2012 to the U.S. government ... totaling $2,761,910.

For its part, the government says WTC fully cooperated with the investigation.

New England Pats Player Jimmy Will Be Ready to Go ... 'But This Is Bulls**t'

Published | Updated

The New England Patriots are confident in their backup QB Jimmy Garoppolo ... but they think Tom Brady's suspension is "absolute bulls**t" ... so says one respected Pats player.

The player -- who wished to remain anonymous so he could be "completely honest" -- tells us bluntly, "Ted Wells is full of sh*t. Brady wouldn't do anything that would jeopardize our franchise."

He continued, "I am upset. The whole team is upset. Brady has held himself together ... but we know he's upset. This is some bulls**t."

"Every time we win, we're accused of doing something wrong. It's like the NFL wants to discredit us for winning. If we lost, this wouldn't be a discussion. Goodell has again failed in his decision making."

As for Tom, the player says ... "I hope Brady wins this appeal. If he doesn't Jimmy will be ready to go ... but this is some absolute bulls**t."

Braylon Edwards Done In By Long Islands ... Cops Say

Published | Updated

Braylon Edwards took down a handful of Long Island Iced Teas before he was popped for DUI in Arizona ... this according to the police report obtained by TMZ Sports.

We broke the story ... the former NFL star was arrested in Scottsdale around 2:40 AM on May 4th. Cops say Edwards was initially pulled over because his headlights were off.

During the stop, cops say Braylon reeked of booze ... so they asked him to perform a breath test -- but he REFUSED ... even after they told him a refusal would result in his driver's license being suspended for 1 year.

Eventually, he changed his tune -- and according to the police report, Braylon blew a .21 -- more than twice the legal limit.

Later that night, cops say he admitted having 3 Long Island Iced Teas at Oasis nightclub earlier in the evening ... but left because "I thought I was fine."

Edwards was ultimately charged with extreme DUI. For his part, cops say Braylon was very polite and cooperative throughout the process.

We reached out to Braylon for comment -- so far, no word back.
