A former Super Bowl champ is UNDER FIRE from parents in a youth football league -- who say the raging pep talks he gives the team are abusive ... but the ex-NFL star says it's just tough love.

The man at the center of the controversy is Seth Joyner -- a 3-time All Pro linebacker -- who now coaches an American Youth Football team in Tempe, AZ comprised of 12-year-olds.

We're told league officials were recently contacted after Joyner went ballistic on the kids during a recent game -- even dropping an F-bomb in an effort to get his team to play better.

TMZ Sports obtained footage of one of the rants ... Joyner is clearly fired up ... and at one point, threatened to "forfeit the f***king game." It's intense.

We spoke with a former coach who worked with Joyner -- who tells us the rant wasn't an isolated incident -- and his players are scared. "The kids are terrified of him. He routinely berates them. The guy is terrible."

But Joyner -- along with several parents -- sees it differently ... telling us he's "passionate" because he wants to get the best out of his players ... and believes he's getting results.

Though Joyner did admit he can sometimes cross the line -- "Do I lose control from time to time?

Joyner says he's spoken with several parents about his coaching methods -- and says "most are completely OK with it."

Katy Perry tried to make a love connection with University of Oklahoma QB Trevor Knight -- but got flagged on the play. Sorry, KP ... turns out Trevor already has a hot, brilliant girlfriend.

But if Katie's dead set on hooking a Knight -- she can still run an option play with Trevor's older bro!

Michael Phelps has been suspended from USA Swimming-sanctioned competition for six months following his DUI arrest last week ... but it doesn't effect the Olympics ... so who really cares?

As part of the suspension, Phelps will not compete in the 2015 FINA World Championships ... which, last we checked, is not the Olympics.

Phelps will also forfeit his monthly stipend from USA Swimming, but seeing as Phelps makes around $10 million a year from endorsements ... we doubt it will effect him much.

The massive Kansas City Royals victory party funded by first baseman Eric Hosmer was no cheap night on the town ... TMZ Sports has learned his tab for the night was more than $20,000!!!

By now you've heard of Hosmer's exploits ... throwing down his credit card to foot the bill for a one-hour open bar at McFadden's in Kansas City following the team's epic win over the Los Angeles Angels.

With the bar packed with overjoyed Royals fans, the GM of McFadden's tells TMZ Sports that Hosmer's bill was around $20k!!

As part of the celebration, Hosmer ordered some Ace of Spades and Veuve Clicquot Brut Yellow Label champagne for himself and a few teammates, which he graciously shared with some fans ... well, he sprayed them with it anyway.

If there's any fan base that deserves it, it's the Royals (sorry Pirates fans, you'll have your chance someday).

Usain Bolt's got 'Hose in different area codes ... as in lederhosen ... 'cause the fastest man on the planet got all German'd out for Oktoberfest this weekend.

Bolt trekked over to Munich -- where he got into the Oktoberfest spirit by pounding beer after beer after beer ... at world class speeds.

Bolt LOVES the festival -- he went last year too.

The most shocking part of the whole thing -- beer consumption at Oktoberfest is reportedly WAAAYYY DOWN this year ... by roughly 1 MILLION LITERS!!

However, alcohol poisoning at the event is also way down ... so, there's that.

Arizona Cardinals running back Jonathan Dwyer has plead NOT GUILTY to charges -- stemming from allegations he beat the crap out of his wife and threw a shoe at his 17-month-old son.

As we previously reported, Dwyer was arrested on Sept. 17th ... after his wife told police the RB went ballistic on her back in July.

Dwyer's wife told cops he headbutted her in the face, threatened to kill her, punched her in the face with a closed fist ... and also fired the shoe at their child.

But Dwyer says it's all BS -- and moments ago, plead not guilty to felony aggravated assault and eight misdemeanors, including assault, criminal damage and disorderly conduct.

Minnesota Vikings defensive tackle Tom Johnson was TASED by cops at a Minneapolis nightclub ... BECAUSE PEPPER SPRAY DIDN'T STOP HIM ... this according a police report obtained by TMZ Sports.

Johnson was arrested early Sunday morning at Seven Steakhouse Sushi Ultralounge Skybar -- where he was allegedly causing trouble around 3AM.

According to the police report, Johnson was told to leave the building -- but refused ... so cops decided to break out the pepper spray.

But Johnson -- 6'3", 288 lbs -- wasn't fazed ... so cops broke out the stun gun.

He was eventually taken into custody and booked for disorderly conduct and trespassing.

Johnson posted $78 bail -- and was released later that day. He's due back in court on Oct. 17.

Just two months after "Basketball Wives: LA" star Draya Michele kicked him to the curb, the two were back in each other's arms in Dallas this weekend.

Michele went to the game -- rooted for Orlando -- and even sat with his family members.

Afterward, she posted a pic on Instagram with the caption, "We might not HAVE IT ALL TOGETHER, but TOGETHER we HAVE IT ALL."

Back before the split in August, Draya had said the two were close to marriage.

At least, that's what The Game told us out in L.A. the other day -- when he warned Cardinals fans that sporting RED in certain parts of town could be bad for your health.

Game is clearly referring to the Bloods (red) vs. Crips (blue) rivalry ... telling us:

"It depends on where you out out here ... because the Cardinals are red ... you get caught slippin' in the wrong hood, it might not be about baseball. It might be about baseball bats."

File Under: "You Know You're In Trouble When" ... you punch a guy in the face as hard as you can -- AND HE DOESN'T GO DOWN ... because the guy you punched is a UFC fighter.

That's exactly what happened in Vegas -- when 27-year-old UFC star Cody "The Renegade" Gibson (12-5) got into a standoff with some dude with a death wish at a bar in Downtown Las Vegas.

It all went down last week ... after Cody's last-second defeat at UFC 178 to Manny Gamburyan. Despite the loss, Cody still felt like going out ... and that's when he got into it with another bar patron.

Sources at the bar tell us ... the two guys got into an arguing match that escalated quickly -- but when it almost came time to fight ... Cody tried to WARN the guy he's a professional brawler.

In the video, you can actually hear Cody tell the other man "Google me, bitch!"

But the other guy didn't listen ... and instead of googling, he SOCKED CODY IN THE FACE.

Cody was stunned ... but didn't go down ... and responded by tackling the guy to the ground.

Security quickly rushed in ... but no one was arrested or seriously injured ... which is good for the dude in the blue shirt, considering Cody is constantly training in Brazilian jiu-jitsu, boxing and Muay Thai fighting.

Bottom line -- props to Cody for not killing the guy.

Katy Perry may not stand a chance at hooking up with Oklahoma quarterback Trevor Knight since he's got a hot girlfriend ... but the next, next best thing says he's single and ready to mingle.

TMZ spoke with Tyler Knight -- Trevor's older brother -- who tells us his famous bro saw Katy Perry crush on him Saturday and he was flattered ... but right now, he's focused on his girlfriend Kate.

Trevor also has a twin brother named Connor ... but he's in a committed relationship as well according to Tyler -- leaving the 23 year old farmer as her best bet in the Knight family.

Tyler says he'd love to take Trevor's place ... but sadly, he and his brother don't have much in common ... in fact, the oldest Knight brother says he considers himself the "black sheep" of the family.

Katy does have a thing for dark horses.

Michael Phelps says he's going to rehab ... this, after his 2nd DUI arrest in 10 years.

Phelps says the days following the Sept. 30th arrest have been "extremely difficult" ... and he acknowledges it's not the 1st time he screwed up.

"I am extremely disappointed with myself. I'm going to take some time away to attend a program that will provide the help I need to better understand myself."

Phelps added, "Swimming is a major part of my life, but right now I need to focus my attention on me as an individual, and do the necessary work to learn from this experience and make better decisions in the future."

TMZ Sports broke the story ... Phelps was busted in Baltimore after an 8 hour gambling binge at a local casino last week. Back in 2004, he was arrested for DUI in Maryland.

Phelps did not say whether he will be receiving treatment for gambling as well -- but it's no secret the guy has a penchant for playing cards.

He's like a young Peter Paul Rubens ... if PPR was accused of murdering a bunch of people ... because Aaron Hernandez is making a hobby out of drawing curvy naked women.

TMZ Sports has learned ... the former New England Patriots tight end has fired off another hand-written letter to a jail pen pal featuring a full frontal sketch of a nude woman.

In the letter, sent from his new home in Suffolk County Jail, the murder suspect also brags about his new digs:

"I'm on the block here lovin' it. I got my own cell too and n**ga. I'm out all day only lock in 4 [hours] a day ... So we be ballin'."

Aaron says he's also reading behind bars -- keeping himself busy with stories about a real gangster ... Harry Potter.

"You know, my realest n*gga I ever fucked with, I'm still fuckin' with -- Harry motha fuckin' Potter."

Of course, it's not the first letter Hernandez has sent from lockup ... back in December he fired off another nude lady sketch for a penpal. Though that one contained no Harry Potter references.
