Chad Johnson was lucky to run into a highway patrol officer who was kind enough to give him a lift when his car blew a tire ... but duty called, and Chad was unceremoniously kicked to the curb.

Chad tells TMZ Sports he was driving home from a football game in Miami when he blew a tire. The former Bengals star didn't have a spare, so the whip had to be towed. An officer offered to take him home, and it actually looked pretty awesome for a while -- Chad in the back seat ... vibing out to Kanye.

But then ... a dispatcher sounded the alarm ... someone committed a 187 -- murder -- and the officer had to book it. So he dropped Chad off at a gas station.

ATL Falcons WR Mohamed Sanu says he was "blown away" by the handwritten letter he got from a family sitting behind him on a plane ... and now, he's delivering a message back to them!!

Tim Brown says he REALLY hopes his beloved Oakland Raiders chose wisely by taking a chance on Gareon Conley ... saying, "If it goes bad for him, it's gonna go bad for the Raiders also."

The Raiders raised some eyebrows Thursday night by selecting Conley in the 1st round -- despite the fact he's in the middle of a rape investigation.

Conley insists he's innocent and the Raiders clearly believe him ... and Brown says he's "hoping and praying" the team made the right bet.

Brown raised an interesting point ... saying former Raiders owner Al Davis was never afraid to take guys who were in trouble because he felt those guys would end up being the most loyal to him.

Garett Bolles is taking a page out of Kendrick Lamar's book and keepin' humble despite a huge NFL contract waiting for him ... saying he still plans to keep driving a Honda minivan to work every day.

TMZ Sports spoke with Bolles before the Denver Broncos took him with the 20th pick in the draft Thursday ... and he made it clear that he's not fazed by the extra 0s in his bank account.

Cliff Avril and Marshawn Lynch did one last thing as teammates before Beast Mode headed off to Oakland ... and for the people of Haiti, it's better than anything the men ever did on the field.

Cliff has been down in Haiti building schools with his Cliff Avril Family Foundation, and he talked to TMZ Sports ... telling us it wouldn't have been possible without an assist from Money Lynch.

"Marshawn put me in contact with the right people for building the school."

This is the 2nd year Avril has done it, and he had not only Marshawn, but Michael Bennett and Stephen Tulloch to help him do the heavy lifting.

The trip also gave Avril a chance to look in on the 12 houses he built in Haiti recently ... one for each NFL sack he got last year.

Aaron Hernandez did not have any trace of illegal drugs in his system at the time he committed suicide ... this according to a new report.

WCBV is reporting the toxicology tests show there was no trace of synthetic marijuana in Hernandez's system when died ... despite previous reports that claimed there was.

Even more strange -- the outlet says Hernandez allegedly drew an unfinished pyramid similar to what's on the back of U.S. dollar bills on the wall IN BLOOD and wrote "Illuminati" below it in all caps.

Braylon Edwards made good on a promise to himself to head back to school and get his degree, and all we can say is ... congrats!!!

Braylon told us about his college comeback in January, and now --12 years after he was drafted in the 2005 NFL Draft by the Cleveland Browns -- he got to put the cap and gown on and tell his Mamma ... "I did it!"

The ceremony was held Friday night for Michigan athletes at the Crisler Center. Edwards was a STUD wide receiver for the Wolverines, scoring 15 TDs and racking up 1,391 yards his senior year. He went on to play 10 years in the NFL and was a Pro Bowler in 2007.

When Braylon left U of M for the NFL, he was just 20 hours shy of his degree. He reportedly completed 16 of them in the winter semester and now has finished up.

Johnny Manziel says there will be no raging bachelor party in Vegas -- or anywhere else for that matter -- before he gets married ... because he's dead serious about returning to the NFL.

We got Manziel leaving Delilah in WeHo ... he tells us his wedding to Bre Tiesi will probably go down next year, but he's not down with a bachelor party. Hard to tell if his boys are cool with that or not, though.

As we've been reporting for months ... Johnny insists he's a changed man and left his partying past behind to get himself back to being a world-class athlete.

We've seen Manziel out a lot lately, and he's been in great spirits and always seems totally sober. Sources close to him tell us he's focused on training every day ... which he confirms with us.

As for the NFL ... Johhny gives mad props to Myles Garrett, who just went #1 in the draft to his former team -- the Cleveland Browns.

He thinks he'll do wonders for 'em ... we all know they need it.

Ciara and Russell Wilson are the proud parents of a new baby girl ... the couple's first child together.

The singer and Seattle Seahawks QB both posted a photo of a pregnant Ciara Saturday welcoming Sienna Princess Wilson with the caption, "No matter how big the wave, we will always be your calm in the storm. We love you." Sienna came in at 7 lbs and 13 oz.

The baby is Russell's first and Ciara's second ... she's got a 2-year-old son with rapper Future.

Michael Mantenuto jumped from playing an American hero in a movie to being one in real life -- fighting ISIS with the Green Berets during his final year in the Army.

Michael played Jack O'Callahan in Disney's "Miracle" before leaving Hollywood to join the Army in 2010. We did some digging and found out he was deployed last year for Operation Inherent Resolve ... which took on ISIS in Iraq and Syria.

As we reported ... 35-year-old Michael committed suicide earlier this week. The coroner in Des Moines, WA says he shot himself while sitting in his car.

Sources close to Michael tell us he was different when he returned from action -- "Something happened over there. He saw something."

The actor-turned-soldier excelled in the military. He was a Communications Sergeant with the elite 1st Special Forces Group -- the Green Berets -- and earned several commendations including the Achievement Medal with 2 Oak Leaf Clusters and a Global War on Terrorism Service Medal.

Dallas Cowboys defensive end Randy Gregory has failed another NFL drug test -- his 7th that we know about -- and his friends are deeply concerned for his well-being.

TMZ Sports spoke with multiple people with direct knowledge of the situation who confirmed Randy was tested on Feb. 21 and was informed on March 2 that his specimen came up positive for weed.

We're told Gregory has since blown off the NFL officials who tried to discuss the situation with him and people connected to Gregory tell us it appears his NFL career might be over.

Gregory was drafted by the Cowboys in the 2nd round of the 2015 NFL Draft -- after emerging as one of the best college players in the country during his time at the University of Nebraska.

Gregory is currently serving a suspension for a prior failed drug test and will miss the entire 2017 season. It's unclear how this new failed test will affect his status.

Sources close to Gregory tell us he's drifted from football. We reached out to Gregory's listed agent, Deryk Gilmore, who says he no longer represents Randy. Attempts to reach Gregory himself were unsuccessful.

Not only was he the 1st round pick for the Washington Redskins on Thursday ... but now we've learned he got engaged just 11 days before the draft!

Adoree' Jackson's only been in the league a few minutes and he's already making predictions ... telling TMZ Sports his old QB, Sam Darnold, will definitely be the #1 pick in the 2018 NFL Draft.

Jackson was selected 18th overall by the Tennessee Titans -- and when we saw him out in Philly right after his name was called, he was praising the man leading his old squad back in L.A.

Jackson also says USC has a real shot at a national championship and Darnold could win the Heisman.

He's not the only one who feels this way -- in fact, there's a campaign among NY Jets fans to "tank" the season to get Darnold in '18.
