Phil Simms Not Officially Out at CBS

You may not have seen the last of Phil Simms on CBS.

With Tony Romo coming in as the new #1 game analyst -- the question now is what happens to Simms?

Our sources tell us straight-up there has been no official decision on whether Simms will get his walking papers or be reassigned ... but a decision is coming.

What we do know is Romo will be the new lead guy, as first reported by Sports Business Daily ... and "talks are going on" regarding Phil's future with the network.

Simms has been with CBS since 1998.

Well, that was fast!!

Tony Romo has already picked his new home -- and it's CBS.

Tuesday morning, news broke that Romo was leaving football to pursue a career as a broadcaster -- with multiple networks battling to sign the ex-Cowboys star.

Well now, Romo has picked CBS, according to Sports Business Daily ... where he's set to replace Phil Simms as the lead game analyst.

CBS is expected to make an official announcement later today. Stay tuned.

North Carolina Fans Burned In Victory Bonfires

Championships = bonfires.

Bonfires = burn injuries.

Officials in Chapel Hill tell TMZ Sports 4 people suffered burns from the victory fires on Franklin Street following the Monday night championship game.

The stats aren't bad considering there were roughly 55,000 people partying their faces off.

We're told no arrests were made and only 7 people were injured (including the 4 burn victims).

Officials say the fires were extinguished and cleaned up without further incident and the streets were reopened to vehicle traffic around 2 AM.

A rep for Chapel Hill tells us, "The Town would like to thank all its many Town employees and area partners for a collaborative effort to watch out for the safety of the people of Chapel Hill."

Ray Rice DID meet with the head coach of a New Jersey high school football team -- but it was NOT about a job and he has NOT been hired ... so says the school's athletic director.

Reports surfaced earlier Monday that Rice took a position to be the running back coach at Don Bosco Prep in Bergen County.

But it's not the case ... so says Athletic Director Bryan McAleer -- who tells TMZ Sports, "It's crazy how rumors start."

McAleer says he doesn't know exactly what Rice and the head football coach spoke about -- but he says Rice has not joined the staff and there are no ongoing talks about an official position with the team, as first clarified by NorthJersey.com's Chris Iseman.

Alabama's Ryan Anderson I Didn't Throw Deshaun Watson Out of a Bar ... I Was Helping Him

Ex-Alabama football star Ryan Anderson says he did not threaten Deshaun Watson and force him out of a Tuscaloosa bar this weekend ... claiming he only got involved to HELP the QB.

Anderson -- a projected NFL Draft pick -- was seen on video along with Tide alum Wallace Gilberry talking to the ex-Clemson QB right before he was escorted out of the Innisfree Irish Pub on Friday night.

Multiple reports say Anderson and Gilberry told Watson to leave -- but Anderson's rep tells TMZ Sports that's NOT the whole story.

We spoke with Anderson's publicist, Bob Broderick, who says Ryan and Wallace only approached Watson because some patrons were getting hostile toward him.

Broderick says Anderson suggested Watson leave before the patrons escalated the situation -- and Anderson even offered to pick up Watson's tab as a friendly gesture.

"Bottom Line, Ryan didn’t ask Deshaun to leave," Broderick says ... "and they have since talked after the incident."

Tom Brady got jersey jacked AGAIN -- this time, the bandit was Rob Gronkowski and Brady made him pay!

Brady, Gronk, James White and Bob Kraft were all at Fenway Park for the Red Sox opening day ceremony -- where Tom proudly displayed the Super Bowl 51 jersey he just got back.

That's when Gronk jumped in -- stole the jersey and tried to run away. He was caught from behind by Tom Brady.

Chad Johnson Catches Uno Touchdown In Mexican Pro Football Debut

Chad Johnson made his triumphant return to pro football this weekend -- IN MEXICO -- and reeled in 41-YARD TD GRAB!!!

The 39-year-old ex-NFL star hooked up with the Monterrey Fundidores of the LFA (Liga de Futbol Americano) and held his own in a matchup against a team called the Dinos.

In the end, Chad caught 3 passes for 64 yards, including the TD, as the Fundidores beat the Dinos 14-6.

Chad tells TMZ Sports he had a blast -- and would definitely do it again if the team requested his services.

It took an international investigation involving multiple law enforcement agencies ... but Tom Brady finally got his stolen Super Bowl jerseys back!!!

New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft presented the jerseys from Super Bowl 51 and Super Bowl 49 to Brady early Monday morning -- and Tom seemed thrilled about getting them back!

As we previously reported, the jerseys were allegedly stolen by Mauricio Ortega -- a Mexican news director who had access to Super Bowl locker rooms for at least the past 10 years.

Authorities recovered the jerseys at the reporter's home in Mexico -- along with Von Miller's helmet from Super Bowl 50.
