More trouble for Oklahoma football star Joe Mixon -- who was evicted from his campus-area apartment after falling behind on the rent ... TMZ Sports has learned.

Christian McCaffrey's no dummy ... and has decided to sit out the Sun Bowl to focus on his NFL career.

Duh.

The Stanford football star is regarded as one of the top running backs in the 2018 NFL Draft -- and is expected to make millions as a pro. Stanford is scheduled to play UNC on Dec. 30th.

He announced his decision Monday morning ... saying, "Very tough decision, but I have decided not to play in the Sun Bowl so I can begin my draft prep immediately."

"Thx to all my teammates for their 100% support - it means a lot to me. Go Cardinal!"

It might not be the popular thing to do ... but forgiving Joe Mixon is the Christian thing to do ... so says Justin Bieber's pastor Carl Lentz.

Lentz -- who's also a spiritual advisor to a TON of NBA stars including Kevin Durant, Carmelo Anthony and J.R. Smith -- says he understands the outrage over newly released video of Mixon brutalizing a female Oklahoma student during a 2014 incident, but says God's will is clear.

"As Christians, we have no choice BUT to forgive."

Lentz essentially believes Mixon has shown remorse and has taken steps to grow from the situation -- and thinks at his core, the football star is a "good man [who] did a bad thing."

Oscar De La Hoya says Bernard Hopkins is speaking the truth when he says Saturday's fight will be his last.

De La Hoya was at The Forum -- the same place Hopkins will take on Joe Smith Jr. in just a few hours -- for the Oscar De La Hoya Foundation's annual Holiday Toy Giveaway. 51-year-old Hopkins has claimed the fight against Smith is his final curtain call ... and Oscar says he's a man of his word.

The biggest horse breeder/trainer in American says it's no contest when it comes sperm -- American Pharoah's got Tom Brady beat.

Kenny Smith says his good friend, Craig Sager, gave him marching orders for his funeral in case he lost his battle with cancer ... wanting anyone who showed up to dress as colorful as Sager did.

We talked to Kenny ... who worked with Craig for years as part of the TNT basketball crew ... and asked him if there was any specific way Sager wanted the crowd to look at his homegoing.

"He told us to dress loudly."

Of course, Sager was known for his crazy suit game (and his professionalism and dignity), so the fact that he wanted his service to look a little lively is no surprise at all.

You gotta hear Kenny talk about it though ... clear how much love he had for the guy.
