Christian McCaffrey's no dummy ... and has decided to sit out the Sun Bowl to focus on his NFL career.

The Stanford football star is regarded as one of the top running backs in the 2018 NFL Draft -- and is expected to make millions as a pro. Stanford is scheduled to play UNC on Dec. 30th.
He announced his decision Monday morning ... saying, "Very tough decision, but I have decided not to play in the Sun Bowl so I can begin my draft prep immediately."
"Thx to all my teammates for their 100% support - it means a lot to me. Go Cardinal!"
Christian's not the first top college star to back out of a bowl game to focus on the NFL -- LSU running back Leonard Fournette just backed out of the Citrus Bowl saying he wants to "rehab and get ready for the NFL."

"He's owned that. He's moved on from that, and he's trying to put forward who he really is and show everybody that."

Justin Bieber's Pastor Forgive Joe Mixon
It might not be the popular thing to do ... but forgiving Joe Mixon is the Christian thing to do ... so says Justin Bieber's pastor Carl Lentz.
Lentz -- who's also a spiritual advisor to a TON of NBA stars including Kevin Durant, Carmelo Anthony and J.R. Smith -- says he understands the outrage over newly released video of Mixon brutalizing a female Oklahoma student during a 2014 incident, but says God's will is clear.
"As Christians, we have no choice BUT to forgive."
Lentz essentially believes Mixon has shown remorse and has taken steps to grow from the situation -- and thinks at his core, the football star is a "good man [who] did a bad thing."
Oscar De La Hoya I Believe Him ... Hopkins Is Done After This
Oscar De La Hoya says Bernard Hopkins is speaking the truth when he says Saturday's fight will be his last.
De La Hoya was at The Forum -- the same place Hopkins will take on Joe Smith Jr. in just a few hours -- for the Oscar De La Hoya Foundation's annual Holiday Toy Giveaway. 51-year-old Hopkins has claimed the fight against Smith is his final curtain call ... and Oscar says he's a man of his word.
