MLB's Hector Olivera Found Guilty Of Assaulting Woman ... Sentenced to Jail

Published | Updated

Ex-Atlanta Braves outfielder Hector Olivera was found guilty of misdemeanor assault on a woman stemming from an April incident outside of a hotel in Arlington ... TMZ Sports has learned.

Olivera was arrested on April 13th outside the Ritz-Carlton after cops say he got physical with a woman early that morning.

Olivera had pled not guilty -- but the case went to a bench trial and the judge found him guilty, this according to Arlington prosecutors.

We're told the 31-year-old Cuban-born player was sentenced to 90 days in jail with 80 days suspended.

We spoke with Olivera's lawyer, Mark Schamel, who tells us he will appeal the conviction next week.

Olivera -- who was a member of the Braves at the time of the incident -- was suspended by MLB for 82 games after the league ran its own investigation and determined he did inflict harm on the woman.

He was traded to the Padres back in July before being released altogether. He's currently a free agent.

Ryan Lochte Stiff Sentence But He Screwed Up Bad ... Says Rowdy Gaines

Published | Updated

Ryan Lochte got what he deserved when the USOC suspended him and banned him from U.S Swimming's National Championships, but there's still an upside ... according to swimming great Rowdy Gaines.

Rowdy -- a 3-time gold medalist who knows Lochte -- came on "TMZ Live" and pulled no punches, telling us Ryan's lie in Rio was a huge mistake that forced the USOC to drop the stiff 10 month suspension.

He also thinks Ryan will have plenty of time to stage a comeback, and Michael Phelps is a perfect example of that -- since he was also banned from the National swim meet after his DUIs.

And check out Rowdy's take on the 10 month sentence. Bottom line ... NBD.

But despite all of that ... LT's attorney went to court Wednesday and entered a not guilty plea on the NFL legend's behalf to 2 charges -- DUI and not carrying a driver's license.

No word on when Taylor's due back in court.

Vegas Murder Suspect Breaks Handcuffs, Escapes Police ... In Ezekiel Elliott Jersey

This is insane footage of a murder suspect breaking his handcuffs and escaping a Las Vegas police station on Friday ... while wearing an Ezekiel Elliott jersey.

The Cowboys fan is Alonso Perez -- who was arrested for allegedly murdering a man who didn't hold the door open for a woman at a McDonald's.

Perez was handcuffed and left alone at the Detective Bureau -- with no guard watching over him.

So, Perez used his body weight to twist the chain connecting the cuffs ... and pushed so hard, it eventually snapped.

He then used his chair to climb into the rafters and escaped the building ... then stole a truck that was left running nearby.

Fortunately, cops were able to locate Perez on Tuesday and he's now back in police custody.

North Las Vegas Police Chief Alexander Perez spoke to the media about the situation ... saying, "We're not perfect. The police are simply not perfect. However, we will learn from our mistakes so they are not repeated and that's the goal."

Ryan Lochte Nailed by USOC ... No White House Visit, No World Championships

Published | Updated

The USOC dropped the hammer on Ryan Lochte because his full punishment includes a ban from the next swimming National Championships meet ... which could put his swim career in jeopardy.

Lochte is also banned from visting the White House with the rest of Team USA Olympians. TMZ Sports broke the story ... Lochte will be banned from swim meets for 10 months, but the USOC just released the full list of punishments he's facing.

He has to return the money he was awarded for winning a gold medal at the games ... perform 20 hours of community service ... and he will have no access to training centers.

The National Championship ban -- which falls outside his 10 month suspension -- is a real shot, since it also means Lochte can't compete in the World Championships ... which could hamper the 32-year-old's hopes of competing in the 2020 Olympics. On the other hand, Michael Phelps got the same ban, and ended up kicking ass this year.

The other swimmers involved in the Rio incident -- Gunnar Bentz, Jack Conger and James Feigen -- got 4 month suspensions ... and will also be banned from the White House visit.

Bentz will also do 10 hours of community service.
