The powers that be at USC are actively working on a plan to bring Reggie Bush back from Trojan purgatory ... so says SC football legend Willie McGinest ... but there's one huge hurdle.

Quick backstory ... the NCAA ordered SC to "disassociate" from Bush FOREVER as part of the punishment levied against Reggie and the school for the infamous gifting scandal.

But Willie says "the entire SC family" has been working together to figure out a way to bring Bush back into the fold.

He also explains why he thinks the lifetime ban is too harsh for the ex-Heisman Trophy winner.

The problem ... we spoke with a rep for SC who tells us their hands are essentially tied.

"We all wish he could be back ... we've appealed more than several times but the appeals have been denied."

Ex-Lakers coach Byron Scott says he can't keep paying for his ex-wife's baller lifestyle, 'cause he hasn't found a new job yet.

As we previously reported, Scott signed a $17 MILLION contract with the Lakers right after he filed for divorce in 2014. He'd been married to his high school sweetheart, Anita, for 29 years.

Since he was making around $300k per month at the time, the judge ordered him to pay $26k per month in spousal support.

But in new court docs obtained by TMZ Sports, Byron claims his financial situation has changed drastically ... 'cause he got fired in April and isn't pulling those huge NBA checks anymore.

Byron says his only form of income these days is a $50k-per-month deferred compensation check from the Cavs ... and half of that already goes straight to Anita.

On top of that, Byron says he probably won't find a new job 'til next year .... 'cause every team has filled their coaching spots and "there will not be a need for an analyst or commentator" at this point in the season.

NBA legend and Hall of Famer Nate Thurmond has died at the age of 74.

According to reports, the 7-time All Star died in San Francisco Friday after a short battle with leukemia. Thurmond was in the NBA for 14 year seasons, the first 11 were with the San Francisco and Golden State Warriors.

Thurmond set an NBA milestone in 1974 when he became the first player to record an official quadruple double with points, rebounds, assists and blocks.

Joe Lacob, President of the Warriors released a statement following Nate's death, saying, “We’ve lost one of the most iconic figures in the history of not only our organization, but the NBA in general."

RIP.

Kevin Hart was succinct and clear about Brock Lesnar's UFC doping woes ... fighters may get away with it for a while, but eventually they're gonna get caught.

Conor McGregor's on the fast track to ANOTHER ass whoopin' ... so says Urijah Faber who tells TMZ Sports the Irish superstar just doesn't have what it takes to beat Nate Diaz.

Faber tried to help Conor prepare for his last fight against Diaz, but his advice fell upon deaf ears.

Now, Urijah says ... despite all of the positive things Conor has going for him -- like toughness and skill -- a victory in the rematch is simply out of the question.

Mark Hunt is FURIOUS over Brock Lesnar's potential failed drug test ... DEMANDING half of B.L.'s UFC 200 winnings ... or he's bolting the UFC.

Hunt laid it all out on his website Friday night ... saying, "I've told Dana I want half of Brock's purse."

FYI -- Lesnar reportedly made $2.5 MILLION ... plus a percentage of the massive pay-per-view take.

"This is the third time I've had to fight a cheater in my career. The other two times I didn't ask for compensation, but this is the third time and I'm sick of them getting away with cheating."

If he doesn't get Brock's cash, Hunt says he wants out of his UFC deal. "I've told Dana that I want a release from the UFC if they don't sort this out."

The UFC has not yet responded to Hunt's ultimatum.

The UFC announced Brock Lesnar has been flagged by the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency for a potential violation stemming from a pre-UFC 200 test.

Good news OKC fans ... Victor Oladipo says he's already been in contact with his new teammate Russell Westbrook ... and they're already drawing up a battle plan for next season.

Oladipo -- who was just traded to the Thunder 3 weeks ago -- joined the guys on the "TMZ Sports" TV show (airs Friday night on FS1) and talked about how he's already bonding with his new squad.
