Tons of HUGE agents came calling for NBA prospect Terrance Ferguson when he announced he'd be skipping college to play pro ball in Australia -- so the question, why did he choose Lil Wayne?

The 18-year-old phenom joined the guys on the "TMZ Sports" TV show (airs Thursday on FS1) and explained why he felt Young Money Sports is the best fit.

Oh ... and that fact he went to prom with smokin' hot Young Money artist Stephanie Acevedo -- yeah, that didn't hurt either!!!

FYI -- Ferguson is one of the top high school players in the country and is heading Down Under for a year until he's eligible to enter the NBA draft.

It was one of the most powerful moments at the ESPYs ... when Zaevion Dobson's mother accepted the Arthur Ashe Courage award ... given to her late son, who died while shielding multiple girls from a horrific shooting.

Moments ago, we saw his mother, Zenobia, at LAX -- and she told us where she plans on keeping the trophy ... a spot where her family can continue to honor the heroic 15-year-old.

Zaevion's story made national headlines after he was shot and killed in Tennessee back in December. Three gunman opened fire on the high school football player and his friends while they were innocently hanging out after the last day of the school year.

Zaevion jumped on top of the girls and saved their lives.

His mother has become a leader in the fight against gun violence -- and says she hopes the ESPY will inspire others to take action as well.

Andre Iguodala says his teammate, Steph Curry, was unfairly pressured into taking a public stand against transgender laws in Charlotte ... and called the whole thing a "lose-lose situation."

The Golden State Warriors star appeared on "The Breakfast Club" on Thursday -- and said he thinks it's BS that superstars like Steph and LeBron are always called upon to fight social injustice. He was essentially taking a stand against taking a stand.

It's an interesting comment ... considering LeBron's speech at the ESPYs Wednesday night.

But the most interesting part -- when Andre brought up a situation involving Steph Curry that went down right around the time North Carolina passed a controversial law requiring transgender people to use the bathrooms that corresponds to their gender at the time of their birth.

"Steph's from Charlotte and they tried to make him make a statement about the trans laws," Andre said ... without specifying who was putting the pressure on Curry.

"Why should he have to have an opinion about that? It's a lose lose situation for him no matter which way he goes."

As for Steph ... he waffled on the topic when first asked about it back in March -- before issuing a slightly stronger statement a few days later.

The largest police union in the country says it heard LeBron's ESPYs anti-violence speech loud and clear -- and wants to team up with the LJ, CP3, D-Wade and 'Melo to begin working together ASAP.

We spoke with Jim Pasco -- the executive director of the Fraternal Order of Police -- who tells us, "We heard their comments and we welcome them."

"We’d like an opportunity to speak with them about how we can work with them to improve communication and interaction between police and the community.”

"These are 4 of the top athletes in their sport and they are role models in the community."

Dana White confirms to TMZ Sports ... he WILL be speaking at the Republican National Convention next week to talk about his relationship with Donald Trump.

The UFC honcho has been very vocal about his support for Trump -- and previously appeared on the "TMZ Sports" TV show on FS1 and explained why he's got Donald's back no matter what.

As for White's RNC speech -- Dana says it won't be political ... but rather, "It will be about my relationship with Trump and the Trump that I know."

More trash talk from Lenny Dykstra -- who says Mickey Rourke is so ugly, he "set the whole facelift industry back 10 years."

The ex-MLB star -- who's now a NY Times bestselling author -- is in an epic war with Rourke ... after recently telling Howard Stern the actor still owes him $30k and insinuated it was for coke.

Rourke called BS on Dykstra's story -- and said he'd "rip him a new f****** asshole" if he ever saw him again.

Now Dykstra's firing back -- insulting Mickey's face, his age ... and joking that he'd beat Mickey's ass first.

LeBron James issued a VERY SERIOUS warning to his ESPY after-party guests Wednesday night -- either you dance or "get the f*** up out of here!!!"

"Was it rigged when your husband was winning ... or was it just rigged when he was losing? ‘Cause the tweet only came when he lost. So I just want to know was it rigged?"

Shaunie says she wasn't trying to be mean -- she was just keepin' it real.

Pretty bold allegation from Bill Simmons ... who claims the NFL co-opted several ESPN employees to smear Tom Brady's image during the Deflategate saga ... including Stephen A. Smith.

Stephen A. had tweeted about Brady's 4-game suspension on Wednesday -- saying, "Tom Brady was ARROGANT, UPPITY, SELFISH and in the end he brought this on himself."

That's when Simmons -- who famously left ESPN on bad terms -- chimed in about his former colleague.

"One of multiple ESPN employees used by the NFL to leak anti-Brady info during this saga decides to weigh in."

Gonna guess Stephen A. will have some thoughts on this ...
