What's in a name? Apparently a ton of cash, according to NBA legend Dominique Wilkins, who says he totally trademarked his iconic nickname ... and loves that Kobe Bryant followed suit.

FYI, Bryant's company, Kobe Inc., recently filed to trademark "Black Mamba" -- the nickname Kobe's been using for years. Question is ... did he wait too long to make his move?

We posed that very question to 'Nique -- who famously trademarked his legendary handle "The Human Highlight Film" back in the day. Check out what he says.

BTW, he also gave an assessment of Justin Bieber's jump shot ... and guess what, he didn't hate it.

Gurley was arriving at LAX when we talked to him about L.A. hosting Super Bowl LV in 2021. Obvious question is ... will the hometown Rams be playing in it?

Good news Rams fans ... Gurley is confident his guys will get to the big game ... only he says it's gonna happen in eight months .... not four years ... which we gotta say, would be awesome.

No pressure, Jared Goff.

THE CONFRONTATION

Johnny Manziel isn't the only thing out of control ... so was the Mercedes he rented, and the guy who owns it went on a mission Friday to track the QB down and demand a sizable check.

Johnny was leaving Trump Soho in NYC when it became apparent his SUV was being blocked by a fleet of cars from Precision Concierge. Seems Wayne, the owner, got wind Johnny was there and he wanted to settle a score.

You'll recall last month TMZ Sports broke the story ... Johnny rented a Mercedes in L.A. and it crashed into a pole on the Sunset Strip, totaling the car. Johnny and the driver, OVO Ryan from Drake's crew, fled but came back and fessed up.

Here's the problem. The Benz was owned by Wayne's company, and Johnny hasn't forked over money for the whip.

So Wayne and Johnny had words in NYC, and as you see in the video Wayne walked away a very unhappy man.

IT TAKES MORE THAN A BELT

Prince Jackson kind of scoffed at the notion a black belt proves you're a bad ass.

We got Michael's 19-year-old son Friday leaving Panera Bread in Bev Hills, and asked the jiu-jitsu enthusiast if he had his eye on a darker color. It seems he's saying the belt doesn't protect you ... skill does.

Martial arts aside, it's always super interesting hearing Michael's kids ... by listening to Prince, you just wouldn't know.

Ray Rice Not Giving Up NFL Dream ... Despite Mentor Role

Published | Updated

Just because he's giving life advice to NFL rookies doesn't mean Ray Rice has given up on his NFL dream -- with multiple sources close to the RB telling us he's still hoping to play this season.

Over the past few days, 29-year-old Rice returned to the Baltimore Ravens to advise the rookies about the importance of being a good person. He also spoke with the football team at Western Michigan.

Many people saw the moves as an indication he was finally ready to let his NFL dream go -- instead, exploring a career as a life coach or motivational speaker.

But we're told that's just not the case.

Our sources tell us Rice has been training like crazy -- keeping his body in NFL shape in case a team decides to kick the tires.

As one person put it -- "his primary focus is on himself, his family and educating others but he would still like to finish what he started."
