Shaquille O'Neal just made his case for inclusion into a very elite group ... The Fugees ... 'cause The Diesel just brought the house down in Miami ... hitting the stage to sing "My Girl" with Wyclef Jean.

Jean and O'Neal were at Barry University for their 75th anniversary "Birthday Bash" Saturday night where Jean ... of course a world famous musician ... was giving a special performance.

The performance got extra special when O'Neal ... a world famous cut-up ... crashed the stage to join Clef in a performance of the Motown classic "My Girl."

Check out the clip -- Shaq doesn't quite know the lyrics, but it doesn't stop him from swaggin' his way through Smokey Robinson's words with a little assist from Wyclef.

NY Yankees superstar CC Sabathia has just announced he's checking into rehab for issues with alcohol.

Someone call Vince McMahon ... because Stephen A. Smith just went on a WWE-style smacktalk rant directed at Kevin Durant ... in which he essentially threatens to dig up dirt that will DESTROY the NBA star!!

It's pretty crazy ... Smith went on ESPN's "First Take" to respond to comments made by Durant -- in which KD called BS on one of Smith's NBA reports about him. Durant called Smith a liar and claimed neither he nor anyone in his inner circle has ever talked to Smith.

Smith clearly didn't take too kindly to the statement ... and UNLOADED this morning:

"I sit here today incredibly offended by the personal attack that this man has put against me," Smith said.

"What I would like to ask Kevin Durant and some of the brothers who talk behind my back in the NBA who probably put him up to something stupid like this ... Do you really want me to come out of this seat and go back on the scene? Do you really wanna see me in an NBA arena?"

"Because I can assure you I'll find out more in 10 minutes than I can get from 50 phone calls .... I have proven it."

"I am a black man on national television with a big mouth and I will still stand up today here and I'll put my resume spanning 22 years plus up against anyone in this industry."

"We really wanna go here? We really wanna start something with ME???? You sure about that??? I just want people to think about that."

RELAX ... forcing MLB rookies to wear dresses is no big deal -- despite criticism that it sends a bad message to kids -- so says ex-MLB star Nomar Garciaparra.

As we previously reported, the head of a powerful LGBT group is upset that several MLB teams forced their rookies to dress like women as part of a hazing ritual ... claiming it sends the message that the idea of men who wear dresses is something to be mocked.

But Nomar doesn't think it's a big deal at all -- telling TMZ Sports, "When it's fun and good taste it's all good."

Boxing was very, VERY good to Shane Mosley -- 'cause the guy has roughly $10 MILLION in the bank, which is awesome ... but nowhere NEAR the kind of money Floyd Mayweather rakes in.

Mosley had to declare his income and expenses to the court as part of his divorce from Jin Mosley ... and in the court docs obtained by TMZ Sports, Shane states he's got $14.6 MILLION in total assets and $4.8 mil in debts.

A powerful LGBT group -- backed by some HUGE athletes -- is calling for MLB teams to quit hazing rookies by forcing them to cross-dress ... because it sends a dangerous message to kids.

At least one of Irving Fryar's old teammates still has his back -- ex-Miami Dolphins star Keith Jackson ... who says he believes Fryar is a good person at heart and is very concerned that he'll be spending the next 5 years in prison.

Jackson tells TMZ Sports ... he's remained friends with Fryar ever since they played together back in the '90s -- "That's my boy. I love him like a brother."

As we previously reported, Fryar was sentenced to 5 years behind bars this week for bilking people out of $1.2 MILLION in a mortgage fraud scheme.

"I'm concerned," Jackson says about the sentence ... "It's not good."

Jackson says he has a hard time accepting that his friend is now a convicted criminal ... but he's refusing to turn his back on Fryar.

Louisville basketball coach Rick Pitino is adamantly denying having any involvement in an alleged prostitution scandal rocking the school's basketball program ... claiming he's completely shocked by the allegations.

The University has already launched an investigation into allegations spelled out in a book penned by self-described madam Katina Powell ... in which she claims U of L staff paid her more than $10,000 for dancing and sex services from her stable of escorts.

In her book, Powell singles out ex-Louisville staffer Andre McGee -- a graduate assistant who became director of basketball operations -- claiming he was the point man who paid Powell.

Powell claims her stable of dancers included her own daughters -- and they would perform for Louisville players at various off-campus locations from 2010 to 2014.

After the dances, Powell claims she would negotiate a separate fee for the players to have sex with the women.

As for Pitino, he just addressed the media and denied any involvement in the alleged sex plot -- adding, "It's a mild understatement that I'm shocked at these allegations."

Pitino says he spoke with McGee about the allegations -- and McGee denied everything. Still he added, "If Andre is a part in this in any way, I've got to forgive him."

There's more ... Pitino says, "I'm shocked over this. My heart's just taken out of my body and broken."

"I venture to say that not one person came here because of these women."

4:35PM PT -- The University of Missouri-Kansas City -- where McGee currently coaches -- just released a statement announcing McGee has been placed on administrative leave. School officials say they've initiated a review into the UL prostitution allegations.
