We found out it was Marc Anthony who reached out to Will Smith ... inviting him into his luxury box at the Miami Dolphins game last night.

Dwyane Wade ... was also invited to hang with the superstars. After the game Wade told people that it was genuine friendship between Marc and Will, and not just mugging for the cameras.

That said, it's clear they wanted to make a very public point ... there are no hard feelings between them in the wake of rumors Marc had an affair with Jada Pinkett Smith.

Nothing like a nice cushy box to bring guys together.

Manny Ramirez allegedly slapped his wife in the face with an open hand ... causing her to hit her head against the headboard of their bed ... this according to the police report.

TMZ broke the story ... Manny was arrested at his home in Florida yesterday for battery in a domestic incident.

According to the report, Juliana told police she and the MLB slugger were arguing in the bedroom when Manny ... "struck her in the left side of the face with an open hand causing her to hit her head against the headboard of the bed."

Fearing things would escalate, Juliana claims she called police.

When cops arrived, Juliana had red swelling on her face and a small bruise on the back of her head. Cops at the scene took photographs of both Juliana and Manny.

Cops say Juliana refused medical attention.

According to the report, Manny claims he merely "grabbed" his wife by the shoulders during the dispute and "when he shrugged her, she hit her head against the headboard."

Manny was charged with misdemeanor battery in the first degree -- if convicted, he could face up to one year in jail.

Serena Williams is telling friends ... she's sorry about her outburst during the women's final at the US Open yesterday -- when she berated a referee for penalizing her at a crucial point in the match.

Sources extremely close to Serena tell TMZ ... the tennis star feels like she got lost in the heat of the moment -- and simply believes her emotions got the better of her.

Serena was fined $2,000 for the outburst -- but sources tell us, the tennis star is less concerned about the money than she is about getting her game back on track.

Ron's rep tells TMZ, 8-year-old Diamond Artest has told her dad she wants to take on the World Peace name -- and with a name like Diamond, the resulting moniker might even be awesomer than her dad's.

Diamond hasn't decided when she wants to begin the legal process -- but we're told Ron's ready and willing to sign on the dotted line whenever she's ready.

Ron's name change to Metta World Peace was supposed to become official last month -- but the judge delayed the request ... over Ron's outstanding traffic tickets.

Former World Series MVP Manny Ramirez has been arrested for allegedly committing domestic violence ... TMZ has learned.

Witnesses tell TMZ Ramirez was taken out of his Weston, Florida home at around 7 PM ET in handcuffs. We're told Ramirez' wife was in the house. Two witnesses tell TMZ Ramirez and his wife were involved in an altercation.

Ramirez' wife, Juliana, left the house shortly after Ramirez was taken away in the back of a police car.

Serena Williams has been cited for verbally abusing the ref during her U.S. Open match Sunday.

Now the US Open referee is investigating Serena Williams for her outburst -- and, worst case scenario, she could be banned from future tournaments.

Serena -- who lost against Samantha Stosur in straight sets -- flew off the handle during the match ... blasting the ref over a call, shouting, "If you ever see me walking down the hall, look the other way because you're out of control. You're a hater and you're unattractive inside. Who would do such a thing? Wow."

The referee will pass along the findings of the investigation to the Tournament Grand Slam Committee, which will decide what discipline, if any, is appropriate.

It's interesting ... Serena's outburst pales in comparison to tennis legend John McEnroe. True enough, McEnroe has been fined and suspended for his outbursts, but they almost seem on another level.

11:54 AM: US Open referee Brian Earley just fined Serena $2,000 for the outburst -- but that's a drop in the bucket ... because she earned a grand total of $1.4 MILLION during the tournament.

According to the US Tennis Association, "Williams' conduct ... does not rise to the level of a major offense."

Wrestling icon Rowdy Roddy Piper says doctors at UCLA are about to slash his neck open and take a hammer and a chisel to his neck bones ... after discovering he's been wrestling with a BROKEN NECK.

57-year-old Piper went to his Twitter and explained he had been experiencing neck pain for quite a while -- but didn't think it was a big deal. In fact, he says he was WRESTLING through the pain for the past couple of months.

But Piper says he got an MRI recently -- and when the docs saw the results, they went into "911 mode" -- and scheduled a surgery as quickly as they could.

"So just for the record," Piper explains, "I beat, The Miz, Terry Funk, and 2 others guys with a broken neck!!"

Piper says he's going under the knife in just a few hours -- but tells his fans, "There [sic] using all the smarts they have at UCLA. I SAY BRING IT ON! CUT DEEP!!! I'M NOT AFRAID!!"

Sources close to Evelyn tell TMZ -- Lozada made up her mind yesterday, after VH1 posted a blog implying Evelyn may have cheated on Chad Ochocinco with his former teammate Terrell Owens.

We're told Evelyn is furious -- claiming the rumor is simply UNTRUE -- and she feels betrayed by the network. VH1 has since pulled the blog -- but Lozada has already decided enough is enough ... and she's told producers she won't be returning.
