Dodger Suspect EXONERATED in Stadium Beating

Published | Updated

Stunning development ... the person the LAPD claimed brutally beat a San Francisco Giants fan has been exonerated ... and two new suspects have reportedly been arrested.

Giovanni Ramirez is now officially off the hook for the beating of Bryan Stow outside Dodger Stadium on opening day.

Law enforcement sources tell TMZ ... the two suspects were arrested this morning and taken to Parker Center -- downtown L.A. police headquarters. They are both male Hispanics. At least one of them is in his mid-20's. Search warrants were served at 4 homes at 2 AM today.

Our sources say ... there was concern that the intial investigation was flawed, so the case was sent to the Robbery Homicide unit for a fresh look. We're told Robbery Homicide detectives "looked at the case from scratch, and the case against Ramirez fell apart."

One law enforcement source called the new development "a major embarrassment to the department."

The LAPD police chief held a news conference early on, saying he was "confident" they had their man -- i.e., Ramirez.

TMZ then posted several stories ... which called into question whether Ramirez was even at the game. And we posted a photo and video of Bryan Stow in a verbal altercation with a Dodger fan during the game, and many other Dodger fans heard Stow go off on the team.

Ramirez is currently in jail on a parole violation.

UPDATE: Ramirez' family tells TMZ ... they are "ecstatic and thrilled" that what they've been telling people all along is true -- "Giovanni did not do this."

Gruesome Details In Death of NBA Player

Published | Updated

The family of murdered NBA star Lorenzen Wright is suing officials in Germantown, TN -- claiming it wouldn't have taken police 9 days to find his corpse if cops would simply have had Internet access.

Wright was shot and killed in July 2010. A witness called 911 during the shooting ... but the caller never disclosed Wright's location. Still, Wright's family believes cops should have tracked the origin of the call with a common Internet program ... which would have allowed them to quickly locate Wright and possibly save his life.

Instead, it took cops 9 days to find Wright's body -- and by that time, the family claims ... "the exposure to the elements including substantial rain, extreme heat, indigenous animals and insects had reduced the remains from roughly 225 lbs to 57 lbs."

So why didn't the cops have Internet access???? Wright's family claims officials had BLOCKED the police from using online programs because certain officers had been abusing their web access.

Wright's family is devastated -- and wants the city to fork over more than $2 million in damages.

Wright was 34 years old at the time of his death. So far, no arrests have been made in connection with the shooting.

NFL Sued for Allegedly Concealing Brain Injury Risks

Published | Updated

Seventy-five former professional football players are suing the NFL, claiming it intentionally concealed the harmful effects of game-related concussions for NINETY YEARS.

According to the lawsuit, filed today in L.A. County Superior Court and obtained by TMZ, the players and their wives claim, "The NFL knew as early as the 1920's of the harmful effects on a player's brain of concussions; however, until June of 2010 they concealed these facts from coaches, trainers, players and the public."

Among the 75 players -- Mark Duper, a former wide receiver for the Dolphins, as well as Ottis Anderson and Rodney Hampton, both former running backs for the Giants.

The suit claims the NFL commissioned a study in 1994, titled "NFL Committee on MIld Traumatic Brain Injury" and published a report in 2004, concluding there was "no evidence of worsening injury or chronic cumulative effects" from multiple concussions.

And, the suit alleges, it was not until June, 2010, that the NFL acknowledged concussions can lead to dementia, memory loss, CTE and related symptoms. All of the players are claiming they suffered injuries as a result of multiple concussions.

In addition to suing the NFL for fraud, negligence and failure to warn ... Riddell -- the manufacturer of NFL helmets -- is also a defendant.

The suit seeks unspecified damages.
