Shaquille O'Neal -- What I Did for Love

Published | Updated

First the staged moon landing ... now this!

In perhaps the greatest, longest running publicity stunt since the inception of the WWF, Shaquille O'Neal tells ESPN, "I always did love Kobe. It was all marketing."

That's right Lakers fans, telling Kobe to "Tell me how my ass tastes", was all teasing. And that whole kooky thing during his rape trial when Kobe accused Shaq of cheating on his wife and Shaq responded by basically calling him a snitch and a rat -- ACTING!

Shaq, we saw you in "Kazaam." You're not that good.

Vick -- Out of the Doghouse "Any Day"

Published | Updated

Michael Vick is just days away from the sweet smell of freedom -- the kind you find at a half-way house.

Vick's lawyer told a Virginia bankruptcy judge this morning he expects Vick to be released to a halfway house "any day" -- which means he could be out from behind bars several months before the end of his 23-month prison sentence at Leavenworth.

Vick could end up serving the rest of the term in Newport News, Va.

The Federal Bureau of Prisons would not confirm the early release plans, but his lawyer seems pretty damn sure of himself.

Think he has plans for the Super Bowl?

Mark Sanchez Is a Bold-faced Liar!

Published | Updated

He's one of the highest rated QBs in the upcoming NFL draft, yet somehow, former USC superstar Mark Sanchez kept a straight face when he said he'd be excited to play for the -- wait for it -- Detroit Lions?!

Now, Mark's a smart guy, as evidenced by his college degree and the fact he was the only USC player to answer our impromptu "current events quiz" during the Rose Bowl -- but why would anyone on the planet have any legitimate desire to play for the worst team in the history of professional sports?

Oh yeah ... money. And the fact that he only needs to win ONE game and he's a hero.

Pilots to Dykstra -- We Flew, You Pay!

Published | Updated

Former MLB star Lenny Dykstra earned the nickname "Nails" for his tough and aggressive playing style. But four men have a new nickname for him: Deadbeat.

According to a lawsuit filed today in Los Angeles Superior Court, Dykstra has yet to fork over the cash he promised to pay four pilots in exchange for flying his private plane. Dykstra had until January 12 to pay up, the lawsuit says, but thus far he hasn't.

What's more, the four pilots claim Dykstra promised them a four-month gig, but didn't deliver on that either.

They are suing for damages, lost wages, attorneys' fees and court costs.

Jennifer Hudson All Bets Are On!

Published | Updated

Every time the Super Bowl comes around, betting sites go crazy with strange bets that have nothing to do with the people actually playing the game -- and Jennifer Hudson is no exception.

On BetUS.com, members of the site can bet real dough on how long it takes Jennifer Hudson to sing the National Anthem -- the over/under odds is 2 minutes, 3 seconds. If this was Aretha, they would definitely need to extend the time to a good 15.

Other crazy bets? How many times will John Madden mention food and the color of the Gatorade that will be used to dump over the winning coach's head. Happy watching!

Mickey Wimps Out of Wrestling Gig

He may have talked serious trash about wrestling with WWE's Chris Jericho, but Mickey Rourke is the one who won't be squirming out of the tunnel at WrestleMania.

"The Wrestler" star won't be wrestling, his rep tells Defamer, because Mick is "focusing entirely on his acting career." Never has Vince McMahon been addressed with such reverence: "Mickey was very honored to be asked as he has the greatest respect for WWE."

Rourke had previously suggested he would be taking on Jericho during the WWE's latest skinstravaganza.

Beckham Sued -- Accused of Beating Photog

Published | Updated

David Beckham has been sued by a paparazzo who claims the soccer star and his bodyguard beat him up.

We just found the lawsuit, filed last month in L.A. County Superior Court, in which Emicles Da Mata claims on December 7, 2008, he had stopped his car on a Beverly Hills street when Beckham reached through the driver's window and grabbed his camera and attempted to wrestle it from him. Da Mata was holding the camera at the time.

The lawsuit claims Beckham's bodyguard -- also a defendant -- then beat him repeatedly, grabbed the camera and threw it in a trash can. The picture on the left shows two of Beckham's bodyguards on top of Da Mata.

Da Mata says he was injured and is suing for assault and battery, as well as emotional distress. He's seeking unspecified damages.
