H.M.A.S.P. -- Hockey Moms Against Sarah Palin

Published | Updated

It probably sounded like a safe bet at the time: Self-pronounced hockey mom Sarah Palin dropping the puck amongst peers at a Philadelphia Flyers game. Her campaign manager should've been more informed about Philly fans.

Just for knowin's sake, Philadelphia fans are legendary for being the most brutal in all of sports -- they once booed Santa Claus during an Eagles half-time show. But cut to last night when Sarah skated into the Flyers' stadium to drop the ceremonial puck -- only to be greeted by a split of boos and cheers.

Politics really brings the best out in people.

Archuleta's Pitchy Performance Busts Up No-Hitter

Published | Updated

David Archuleta almost became a legend to the fans of Tampa Bay last night.

During last night's ALCS game between the Boston Red Sox and the Tampa Bay Rays -- Red Sox ace Daisuke Matsuzaka was on his way to a no-hitter.

Then during the seventh inning stretch Archie sang "God Bless America." The next pitch thrown by Dice-K -- a single to right, busting up the no hit bid.

Archie's jinx didn't last long though. The Red Sox still won the game 2-0.

Jose Canseco Busted with Anti Nut-Shrinkers

Published | Updated

Baseball's most famous 'roid monger, Jose Canseco, spent more than 9 hours in federal custody yesterday after U.S. border agents caught him allegedly smuggling HCG -- a hormone commonly used to reverse the shrinking effects of jock juice.

According to Canseco's attorney, Jose was on his way back from Mexico, when he was stopped at a San Diego checkpoint and randomly searched. Canseco's lawyer claims feds uncovered a "small amount" of a hormone called HCG. FYI -- the hormone can be legally acquired in the U.S. with a proper prescription.

After Canseco and an unidentified passenger spent more than 9 hours in custody, the 44-year-old gave permission for agents to search his Los Angeles home. We're told the sweep turned up nothing.

Canseco is due in federal court in on Tuesday to face a smuggling violation.

Radio Station to Magic: Our DJ's Are Morons

Published | Updated

A radio station in Minneapolis is cleaning up the mess left by an idiotic pair of DJs who theorized on-air that Earvin "Magic" Johnson has been faking being HIV positive. Bad taste, line one!

KTLK has released a statement to TMZ saying, "KTLK recognizes the seriousness of the health issues presented by HIV / AIDS -- and the great work that Magic Johnson has done ... We regret that some off-hand remarks by commentators on KTLK did not reflect that. To better inform our listeners and employees, KTLK will be airing HIV/AIDS awareness public service announcements, and will be reaching out to Mr. Johnson to get his thoughts on education efforts."

This once again proves that AIDS is no laughing matter ... unless it's on "Family Guy."

Michael Jordan -- Mess with Bull, Get the Horn!

His Airmess was in South Beach yesterday -- probably joking around -- but as anyone who has any appreciation for sports knows ... when Jordan tells you to do something, you do it. Fortunately for the snappers, the cabbies disobeyed.

Dogfighting and Kids Meals? Vick's Lovin' It!

Published | Updated

Forget the Hamburglar! McDonald's is promoting its products using an actual convicted felon -- Michael Vick.

A TMZ employee went into a McD's in Hollywood yesterday and ordered a Happy Meal (don't ask). The box she received (pictured above) advertises six different electronic sports games, each of them named after a famous athlete. But Michael Vick is the only one of those athletes who is currently in federal prison.

The advertising was part of a cross-promotion with ESPN from 2004 -- back when Vick was just an overrated football player, instead of a dog murderer. Considering the Happy Meal is specifically targeted to young kids, you'd think Mickey D's would be more diligent about removing the name of a convicted dogfighter off the packaging.

We've contacted McDonald's for comment and they say they're getting back to us. This should be good.

UPDATE: We asked PETA what they thought about the whole thing. PETA's vice president, Bruce Friedrich, told us, "Given that McDonald's lets its suppliers cram animals into metal cages and crates and boil chickens alive, it's sad, but doesn't shock us, and at this point, even Michael Vick himself would probably rather that this particular Happy Meal would be a happy memory."

Nancy Benoit Nude Pix Not Illegal, Just Distasteful

Published | Updated

Sometimes even when you win, everybody loses.

Hustler printed 25-year-old nude pictures of Nancy Benoit in its March 2008 issue, ten months after she was killed by her husband, wrestler Chris Benoit. Her family had sued the mag, claiming it was a violation of privacy.

But yesterday, a federal judge tossed the case, saying the photog and the mag had the right to publish the pictures -- even if the pics were "offensive and distasteful."

Nancy's family is still considering filing a wrongful death suit against the WWE.

"Pacman" Can't Outrun His Ghosts

Published | Updated

Dallas Cowboys cornerback Adam "Pacman" Jones was allegedly involved in a violent altercation at Dallas hotel -- after just completing a one-year suspension from the NFL for the same kind of stupidity.

Pac allegedly got into a brawl with one of his own bodyguards -- a bit bass ackwards, no? -- in the bathroom of the Joule Hotel on Tuesday night. The fight had to be broken up by hotel security, according to KTXA in Dallas.

No police reports were filed, but KTXA also claims a mirror was broken and Pacman jetted on his hotel bill.

The Joule offered up a "no comment" -- the Cowboys have yet to get back to us.

UPDATE: A high-ranking team official says an internal investigation was conducted, and found Pacman was not in violation of his contract.
