It all went down on August 26 when Howard -- who is in an ongoing custody war with baby mama Royce Reed -- went to pick up their 2-year-old son. Reed, we're told, flipped out and called the cops because she claimed the custody agreement didn't give Howard the right to pick the child up that day.

Reed showed up at the day care center for a showdown, but Howard had already left with the kid.

The cops called Howard ... and the NBA star explained he and his ex made a new agreement ... giving him the right to cart his kid away that day. But ... after speaking with lawyers from both sides, the cops handed down their verdict -- a new custody agreement was discussed but never signed.

The cops ordered Howard to return the child to the day care center, stat. Howard's nanny -- the Henry Kissinger character -- took the boy back to school and Reed took him home.

Basketball is so much easier ...

We're told Hogan -- who has had several back surgeries throughout the years -- has had trouble the past few days and woke up this morning unable to get out of bed.

His girlfriend called the ambulance and, we're told, he was taken to a local hospital in Clearwater, FL.

Sources tell TMZ Hogan is still in the hospital where tests are being run.

Tiger struck the sleeveless version of the $100 million pose on Thursday in a hotel in Providence, RI -- he's in town for the Deutsche Bank Championship.

The reason -- we're told Andre was Luna's godfather ... and the two were extremely close.

No word on when the scattering is taking place -- but according to sources, Luna's funeral Mass occurred yesterday ... and a private service is in the works today for friends and family.

TMZ has obtained this photo of Tiger Woods ... taken moments after the hearing in which his divorce from Elin Nordegren was finalized at Bay County Circuit Court in Panama City, Florida last month.

Tiger -- who didn't say one word to Elin that day -- smiled and posed for a photo with the bailiff from the hearing right after they left the courtroom.

One source tells us Tiger was "nice" -- even after signing away roughly $100 million to Elin.

Several FOOs -- Friends of Oksana -- were bummed after hearing Oksana complain she couldn't afford to buy Alexander a nice gift for his 13th birthday. Oksana has been saying she's deep in debt because of her custody war with Mel.

We're told the FOOs contacted a couple of execs they knew at the Lakers organization and called in a favor ... and the Lakers responded.

Days later an enormous gift basket arrived at Oksana's doorstep -- filled with all sorts of Lakers swag for Alexander, including basketballs, jerseys, t-shirts, towels, a picture of the team, a pennant and lots of other stuff.

TMZ has obtained legal documents filed in Martin County on August 27 -- four days after Tiger finalized his divorce from Elin Nordegren -- in which he lists himself as a "single man" ... possibly for the first time since his marriage ended.

Tiger also agrees to pay back the gargantuan loan by January 15, 2016. So, it seems there's one group of people counting on Tiger to make a comeback -- his lenders.

Burress -- who was locked up for illegal gun possession after accidentally shooting himself at a NY nightclub -- had requested a "temporary release" so he could play football again.

But officials denied his request stating, "The serious and negative impact illegal guns have on the community coupled with dangerous nature of the weapon discharging in a public place renders him unsuitable for work release participation."

TMZ broke the story ... Leicester Bryce Stovell filed a $4 million lawsuit against LeBron and Gloria James, the NBA star's mom, claiming fraud and defamation.

Now attorneys for LeBron and Gloria have asked a judge to dismiss the suit, labeling it "rank speculation." According to the new legal docs obtained by TMZ, LeBron's lawyers scoffed at "... a man who claims that as a twenty-nine year old lawyer he got a 15-year old girl pregnant during a one-night stand and who never contributed a penny in child support would earn millions in commercial endorsements by crawling out of the wood-work after the child he never gave a thought to became an NBA star."

The new docs also note the results of a DNA test which show "0% probability of paternity."
