A$AP Rocky Faces Backlash By Swedish Prosecutors

A$AP Rocky may actually be in even more peril as he lingers in a Swedish jail BECAUSE the U.S. government tried to help him.
The prosecutor has shown no sympathy for A$AP, despite the fact that the person he is accused of assaulting assaulted him first, and it's all on video. Nevertheless, sources connected with the case tell TMZ, the prosecutor has been immovable on the subject of release pending charges, despite the fact that the U.S. State Dept. and now the President of United States got involved.
As we reported, the State Dept. waged a full court press last Thursday, trying to get A$AP out of jail, to no avail. The prosecutor mistakenly played his hand Friday when he released a statement an indictment will be filed against Rocky. His office said it was a mistake to say that, but the intentions are clear.
Sources connected to the case actually think intervention by the State Dept. and the President -- who essentially said he would guarantee bail if they would release Rocky -- could actually BACKFIRE because they are trying to get in the prosecutor's business.
The Swedish Prime Minister as much as said so Saturday, after Trump got him on the horn and lobbied for A$AP's release, telling Trump about "the complete independence of the Swedish judicial system, prosecutors and courts." A spokesperson for the PM said, "He [the PM] underlined that in Sweden everyone is equal before the law and that the government cannot and will not attempt to influence the legal proceedings."
Translation ... butt out.
The fear now -- the prosecutor may actually go harder on Rocky, to show he is not kowtowing to U.S. government officials. Fact is ... the prosecutor couldn't be much harder on Rocky than he is now.

Rapper Dave East Yeah, Free A$AP ... But I'm Still Takin' Sweden's Ca$h

Dave East is onboard with just about everyone else about getting A$AP Rocky the hell out of a Swedish jail, but when it comes to boycotting the country ... DE ain't doing it.
We talked to the New York rapper -- who hails from the same borough A$AP is from, Harlem -- and asked for his take on the sitch in Europe, where Rocky's been in custody for nearly three weeks now on a BS assault charge ... and Dave has some interesting insights.
First off, he tell us ... yeah, A$AP shoulda been out of that jail cell a long time ago, and agrees with G-Eazy about the notion that white entertainers are simply treated differently than black ones ... which he says comes down to privilege and racism.
JULY 2019
Dave puts it this way ... a lot of rappers that go overseas are black, rich, flashy and probably NOT what a lot of foreigners might be used to (or like, for that matter) -- and they'll wanna put an end it to it any way they can. In A$AP's case, he suggests that means lockin' him up.
Here's the kicker though -- our guy asks Dave if he's gonna join the chorus of entertainers and others who've vowed never to perform in Sweden again for the mistreatment of A$AP.
He says nope, and gives a pretty cold, hard reason for why. Dave's also got advice for Americans traveling abroad ... don't get in fights, even if you didn't start it, apparently.

Donald Trump I'll Guarantee Bail for A$AP Rocky
Well this is a twist ... Donald Trump just said he's personally guaranteeing bail for A$AP Rocky if Swedish authorities release him ... meaning the President would be on the hook if Rocky skips out.
It's a bizarre turn in the case. Trump just tweeted, "Just had a very good call with @SwedishPM Stefan Lofven who assured me that American citizen A$AP Rocky will be treated fairly. Likewise, I assured him that A$AP was not a flight risk and offered to personally vouch for his bail ..."
Trump didn't use the word, but it sounds like he's saying he's willing to become a guarantor on Rocky's bail application.
As we reported, a judge ruled Friday A$AP is a flight risk and therefore can't be let out of jail while the case grinds on.
So, he's now spoken to the Swedish Prime Minister who really promised nothing ... especially if he views what's going on as fair. As we reported, A$AP has been jailed for more than 2 weeks and not a single criminal charge has been filed against him. Prosecutors say they need another week to investigate -- even though any lawyer out of school for a year could process this one quickly, since there's video -- and they convinced a judge to hold Rocky in custody while they figure it out.
And, by the way, prosecutors blew it by sending out a press release saying they plan to indict him ... so why the charade of pretending the investigation is continuing? When we contacted them they told us they mistakenly put that info in the press release and then removed it. The mistake was clearly just that they played their hand.
The reality is this ... Trump and his State Dept. have already made a full court press to get Rocky out and it fell on deaf ears. Good that he's trying, but Swedish authorities up to this point have been immovable.
As we reported, Kanye called Trump Friday and made a plea for the President to get involved.
Rocky faces 6 years in prison if he's charged and convicted of assaulting a man who assaulted him first.

G-Eazy Sweden's Treatment of A$AP Rocky ... Proves White Privilege, Racism

3:35 PM PT -- G-Eazy just showed enormous support for A$AP -- posting our story with a powerful message -- saying, "Facts. This is the sad truth ... The difference between me and Rocky's treatment and process in Sweden brings to mind two concepts that disgustingly go hand in hand: white privilege and systematic racism."
He continues, "Let's call it what it is. He should not be behind bars right now. My heart goes out to my brother @asaprocky and his team. We're riding for y'all. #JusticeForRocky #FreeRocky."
11:34 AM PT -- Jada Pinkett Smith's weighing in on the situation after apparently just learning about G-Eazy's experience in Sweden compared to Rocky's ... saying, "We got the message loud and clear Sweden. Trust me ... we got it."
Hold it ... G-Eazy got to strike a deal a day and half after possession of drugs and assault charges??? But you’re holding Rocky. We got the message loud and clear Sweden. Trust me ... we got it.
— Jada Pinkett Smith (@jadapsmith) July 19, 2019 @jadapsmith
As A$AP Rocky rots in a Swedish jail for weeks without being charged with a crime, you gotta wonder how another rapper -- a white rapper -- accused of the same crime and more spent a relative nanosecond behind bars before being allowed to go on his merry way and leave the country.
You may recall a story TMZ broke a year ago in May, when G-Eazy was arrested in Stockholm after punching a security guard in a club and snorting coke using a $100 bill.
G-Eazy was arrested for assault, possession of drugs and use of narcotics. There was no video of the attack, yet prosecutors allowed him to strike a deal a day-and-a-half later ... he pled guilty to violent resistance, a crime of violence against an official and illegal drug possession. His sentence -- a $10k fine and probation. He was also ordered to pay the security guard $900.
That was it ... G-Eazy was allowed to leave the country, no muss, no fuss.
Now, compare that to A$AP. There's VIDEO of the assault -- actually 2 videos, the other being the alleged victim assaulting Rocky first -- yet prosecutors and the judge have kept him in jail for more than 2 weeks as they continue to "investigate" and decide if he'll be charged. As we reported, prosecutors mistakenly played their hand Friday and said he was going to get indicted.
A$AP faces 6 years in prison for his alleged assault. G-Eazy spend less than 2 days behind bars.
And, one more thing. Remember, back in 2015 Snoop Dogg was arrested in Sweden after being snatched out of his car because cops believed he was driving under the influence. He was forced to pee in a cup and was released after cops determined he was clean. Snoop, who was there for a concert, said it was a case of DWB and he would never return to the country.
So, what gives?

Kanye West Line into the Oval Asked Trump to Help Free A$AP

We now know how the Donald Trump/Kanye West phone call went down Friday ... Ye called the Prez.
Sources with first-hand knowledge of the convo tell TMZ, Kanye called Trump to express his frustration over the Swedish judge's decision to hold A$AP Rocky for another week while the prosecutor decides whether to charge him ... even though we know that decision has already been made.
Kanye told Trump he wanted to get personally involved in the fight to free A$AP, and the first step was calling the President. Kanye discussed the fact Trump could call the Prime Minister ... and we're told Trump was agreeable.
The call was quick. We're told Kanye has a direct line into the Oval Office.
Trump said earlier, he's gotten a lot of calls from people in the African-American community over the A$AP situation ... but then said African-Americans and everyone else are one.
Trump said Melania also brought the A$AP matter to him, although we know Kim Kardashian called Jared Kushner about A$AP, who then went to Trump and Trump then contacted Pompeo.
The bad news for A$AP ... the State Dept. -- at Trump's behest -- tried in a big way to get A$AP out today, and failed.

1:09 PM PT -- Trump confirmed that he is working personally with Kanye West to get A$AP out of custody, and will be calling Sweden's PM to "see what we can do about helping A$AP Rocky."
Just spoke to @KanyeWest about his friend A$AP Rocky’s incarceration. I will be calling the very talented Prime Minister of Sweden to see what we can do about helping A$AP Rocky. So many people would like to see this quickly resolved!
— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) July 19, 2019 @realDonaldTrump
President Trump says many people have reached out to him regarding the A$AP Rocky situation in Sweden ... and even the First Lady's concerned about getting him home.
POTUS addressed the media Friday and says he knows there's tremendous support for the rapper, and the U.S. government is working on helping him.
He says Melania also brought A$AP's plight to his attention and told him something needed to be done about it.
Melania says the ball's in motion with the State Department already, adding ... "we hope to get him home soon."
As we reported ... the judge has ordered A$AP to stay in jail, where he has already been for a couple weeks, while prosecutors continue their investigation. However, it seems they are set to indict him soon ... and they have argued he's a flight risk if he's allowed to leave jail.
A$AP's lawyer's calling this treatment unjust based on all the circumstances.
Also, we broke the story ... the treatment of the rapper is WAY different that what another white rapper, G-Eazy, went through last year despite a very similar set of circumstances.

A$AP Rocky Judge Orders Rocky to Stay in Jail ... Says He's a Flight Risk
-
Breaking News

9:40 AM PT -- Rep. Adriano Espaillat says Swedish authorities are using "KGB tactics" by keeping A$AP in jail. He echos what A$AP's team knows ... they are going to indict him.
7:53 AM PT -- A$AP's lawyer, Slobodan Jovicic, tells TMZ, it is unjust to hold his client in jail because prosecutors believe he's a flight risk. Jovicic says there's no way A$AP would go on the lamb, because he's an international star and fleeing Sweden would torpedo his ability to tour and maintain his career.
The lawyer also says given the circumstances -- that there's video of the alleged victim attacking A$AP and his crew before A$AP took action, that A$AP tried to de-escalate the situation and that this was really a case of pushing and shoving ... at most he should get probation.
5:34 AM PT -- A judge just sided with prosecutors and ordered that A$AP stay in jail for another week while prosecutors continue their investigation. They say they'll make a final decision next Thursday ... although given their original press release early Friday, it seems the die is already cast -- they're going to indict A$AP. Prosecutors say they must keep the rapper behind bars because he's a flight risk.
Again, the man A$AP allegedly assaulted -- the man who assaulted him and others first -- hasn't spent a minute in custody. As for why prosecutors need more time when it's all on video ... beats us. That means Rocky will be in jail for 3 weeks before any charges are even filed.
3:20 AM PT -- Now check this out ... Swedish prosecutors just issued a REVISED press release and have taken out the original statement that they will indict A$AP Rocky. Now it just says they need more time to investigate so he should stay in jail. So the question, was it a mistake, or was it a mistake that they just inadvertently played their hand?
A$AP Rocky is going to be indicted ... that's what prosecutors just said in a press release -- so what makes this bizarre case even more bizarre and abusive, they say they want him to stay in jail because they still need to investigate to figure out what happened on the streets of Sweden. So, why the hell have they already decided to charge him if they haven't figured out the case?
It's the latest twist in an outrageous case. The judge will hear the matter in a couple of hours.
Prosecutors say A$AP and 2 others in his crew may face crimes of abuse, assault and attempted assault ... remember, the assault is against the Swedish guy who first assaulted A$AP and others.
Prosecutors say they need until next Thursday to figure out, which raises the question ... if they haven't figured it out, how have they already figured out they are going to indict him?
The statement comes on the heels of the Trump administration getting involved in helping free the rapper. TMZ broke the story ... Kim Kardashian and Kanye West lobbied the White House to get involved in the drama across the pond. It was actually Kanye who urged Kim to get on the horn and talk to President Trump's son-in-law, Jared Kushner -- with whom Kim is very familiar with from her previous White House work.
Members of the Congressional Black Caucus also got involved ... calling out Secretary of State Mike Pompeo for not doing more and claiming the State Dept. wasn't moving fast enough.
JULY 2019
As you know by now ... Rocky had been held behind bars for more than 2 weeks now as prosecutors determined if the rapper should be charged with aggravated assault.
We broke the story ... Rocky's troubles began almost immediately after video surfaced showing the rapper and his crew pummeling a guy in Sweden ... leaving him battered and bloodied. Police then began investigating after a report was filed.
But, a second video then surfaced showing the alleged victim harassing A$AP and hitting his bodyguard with a set of headphones. The rapper actually tried to be a peacemaker .. telling the guy, "We don't wanna fight y'all. We don't wanna go to jail."
As we first reported ... Rocky was held in a Swedish jail with shockingly inhumane conditions. Our sources had said an official from the U.S. Embassy in Sweden told A$AP Rocky's team that the person from the U.S. Consulate who visited Rocky in the jail reported back, "Walking into that place was like walking into a toilet."

Jordyn Woods isn't typically in the business of making music videos, so everyone's wondering why she's starring in Rick Ross' ... well we know, and it's meant to be an homage to her late father.
Sources close to Jordyn tell TMZ ... she recently met the 'Miami' rapper while the two were doing an episode of VH1's "Hip Hop Squares." They got to talking and Jordyn's mom, Elizabeth Woods, brought up the fact her late husband loved -- LOVED -- RR's music.
Everyone exchanged numbers on the game show set, and they kept in touch. Soon after, Rick expressed to Jordyn he had a great opportunity for her ... and wanted her to be the leading lady in his newest music vid.
We're told Jordyn jumped at the offer ... feeling it was a great way to honor her father's memory. John Woods died in January 2017 -- when Jordyn was just 19 -- after a battle with cancer.
As we reported ... the music video shoot went down Wednesday in Miami, where Jordyn was showing off her figure in some lingerie and a cute dress, with Ross on her hip.
No doubt Jordyn's dad would be proud ... his daughter's a BAWSE!!!

Swedish Ambassador Black People Shouldn't Fear Visiting Country ... In Wake of A$AP Rocky's Detainment

The Ambassador to Sweden says her country does not have it in for black people, and as for A$AP Rocky, he's being treated fairly.
Karin Olofsdotter appeared on 'TMZ Live' Thursday and maintained A$AP Rocky has not been unfairly singled out after his detainment, more than 2 weeks ago, for allegedly assaulting a man on the street.
We challenged the Ambassador, because the man the rapper allegedly assaulted him first, and it's all on video. The Ambassador suggested A$AP's crime may be more serious, although she wouldn't elaborate.
She also scoffed at the notion black people might now be afraid to travel to Sweden, given what happened to A$AP and what Quavo told us about what happened to him. She said Sweden proudly is in the top 5 countries that enforce the "rule of law."
As for claims by the U.S. Embassy as well as members of A$AP Rocky's team -- that the jail where he was initially held was disgusting -- she says even A$AP's lawyer claims those reports are inaccurate. That, by the way, is just not true, because his attorney -- Alan Jackson -- has maintained the condition when A$AP was first jailed were deplorable.

3:08 PM PT -- Law enforcement sources tell TMZ it's currently unclear if the person arrested for the weapons charge was involved in the shooting, but testing will be done on the gun recovered at the home.
11:48 AM PT -- We're told one person on the scene was arrested for a weapons charge.
The L.A. County Sheriff's Dept. is raiding a Hollywood Hills home in connection to a shooting involving an SUV registered to YG, which left one deputy shot and an innocent bystander dead.
Sheriff's sources say the house is leased by YG ... but he was not detained or arrested and was not present on the property during the raid. Deputies got a judge to sign a search warrant in connection with the incident involving a wild police chase earlier this month.
As TMZ reported, someone inside an SUV registered to YG fired shots from inside the vehicle, striking a deputy. A pedestrian was killed during the crossfire between deputies and the shooter. The incident occurred on July 3 in Compton.
Four men have been handcuffed at the scene and have been placed in patrol cars while deputies continue their search inside the house.
YG denied he was there at the time of the shooting, saying, "I was nowhere near the scene of this incident and had been in a recording studio all day in Hollywood. I was there until after midnight on the 4th of July and didn't learn of these events until after they happened."

3:39 PM PT -- Kim just tweeted about the A$AP situation, saying, "Thank you @realDonaldTrump, @SecPompeo, Jared Kushner & everyone involved with the efforts to Free ASAP Rocky & his two friends. Your commitment to justice reform is so appreciated."
President Trump is very much aware of A$AP Rocky's legal sitch in Sweden -- and he's got his team working to get him freed ... thanks in part to Kim K and Kanye West.
That's right ... we've learned Kim and Kanye lobbied The White House to jump in and get involved in the drama across the pond -- where A$AP's been behind bars for more than two weeks now as prosecutors determine if the rapper should be charged with aggravated assault.
Here's how it went down. We're told as soon as Kim and Kanye heard about A$AP's predicament earlier this month ... Kanye urged Kim to get on the horn and talk to Trump's son-in-law, Jared Kushner -- with whom Kim is very familiar from her previous White House work.
Our sources say Kim filled Jared in on what was happening, and Jared then took the info to Trump himself ... whom, we're told, acknowledged something seemed amiss.
In addition to Kim and Kanye, Kareem Lanier and Pastor Darrell Scott of the White House’s Urban Revitalization Coalition, also played a big role … helping to connect ASAP’s management directly with Kushner through a phone call.
We're told Trump told Kushner he believed A$AP was being held unfairly, and wanted to help. As we reported, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo got involved and unleashed a few deputies in an attempt to get some action. A State Dept. member was supposed to arrive in Sweden Thursday. We're told the State Dept. is now actively working to get A$AP out of jail, thanks in large part to Kim's efforts.
However, some feel the State Dept. isn't moving fast enough. Members of the Congressional Black Caucus called Pompeo out for not doing more, though our sources say he's been working tirelessly. Fact is ... Swedish authorities have been unmoved so far ... and our sources say there's now real fear prosecutors might delay their decision beyond the 3 week mark and keep A$AP in custody.

Cardi B has compassion for A$AP Rocky and wants him freed ASAP, but she's not about to boycott a country that has shown her unbridled love ... i.e., Sweden.
Cardi literally (well, almost) stopped Bev Hills in its tracks when she perused the shelves at Prada, with throngs of fans craning their necks to sneak a peak.
Our photog asked if she's down with pulling the plug on appearances in Sweden in protest of Sweden's decision to keep A$AP Rocky in jail while prosecutors noodle over whether to charge him with aggravated assault.
Cardi is clearly empathetic to the plight of A$AP, who's been stuck in a Swedish jail for more than 2 weeks. The State Dept. is actively trying to get him out and, with a little help from Kim and Kanye, President Trump is on board as well.
Cardi hadn't seen our video with Quavo, who said he too was abused by cops in Sweden.
As for A$AP, the next 24 hours could be game-changing because we're told the State Dept. is putting the squeeze on Sweden to win his release.

Rep. Espaillat says they've been in touch with the Swedish Embassy, which he claims is refusing to interfere on A$AP's behalf. The Congressman says Sweden will emerge from this saga with a black eye, and he thinks race is definitely a factor in A$AP's detention.
A$AP Rocky should be immediately released from a Swedish jail -- that's what the Congressional Black Caucus is demanding with its protest on the steps of the U.S. Capitol.
Members of the Caucus going to bat for A$AP include Congressmen Andre Carson and Hakeem Jeffries. Rep. Adriano Espaillat, who reps for A$AP's Harlem neighborhood, will also be there.
7/12/19
Rep. Jeffries has been vocal about A$AP's detention for a while now, saying the saga proves the hip-hop police are even at work outside the United States.
As we've reported ... A$AP has been rotting in a Swedish jail for weeks, being treated like a convicted criminal even though prosecutors have not charged him with a crime. The rapper is under investigation for aggravated assault, and the alleged victim is a man who was physically attacking and harassing A$AP and his crew before the street brawl that landed him in jail.
JULY 2019
