NASCAR’s first commissioner Steve Phelps announced his resignation Tuesday after 20 years with the racing series … and a month after his shocking text messages were revealed in a nasty trial.

A string of texts between NASCAR executives from 2023 were unsealed during testimony of the recent antitrust trial between two teams -- one being 23XI Racing, owned by Michael Jordan and Denny Hamlin -- and the association.

TMZ Sports has obtained more details about Lenny Dykstra's New Year’s Day traffic stop ... with cops suspecting the former Mets star had either crack or meth on him.

Pennsylvania State Police claim Dykstra -- who was the passenger -- opened the glove box during questioning just after midnight to confirm his identification ... and they observed in plain sight a "container holding suspected crack-cocaine/methamphetamine and a glass smoking device containing suspected drug residue."

Police didn't field test the substances, but he has since been formally charged with misdemeanor possession of drugs and drug paraphernalia, according to local reports.

Nick Reiner has been taken off suicide watch at the Los Angeles jail where he's locked up for allegedly stabbing his director dad, Rob Reiner, and his mom, Michele, to death ... TMZ has confirmed.

Law enforcement sources tell us ... Reiner no longer has to wear a suicide prevention smock -- which mainly prevents inmates from hanging themselves -- inside the Twin Towers Correctional Facility in Downtown L.A. Our sources say it's standard operating procedure to remove the smock whenever an inmate does not attempt suicide for a 2-week period.

PEOPLE was first to report Nick is now off suicide watch ... but he will remain in High Observation Housing under the watchful eyes of correction officers until a judge rules otherwise.

A doctor and his wife were shot to death inside their Ohio home before New Year's -- and police have now released video of a person of interest in the high-profile double murder case.

The Columbus PD says Dr. Spencer Tepe and his wife, Monique, were fatally shot on the second floor of their house in Weiland Park on December 30. Their 2 children, ages 1 and 4, were also in the house but were unharmed and are currently in the care of relatives with the family dog.

When Dr. Tepe failed to show up for work at his dental practice, fellow employees went to check on him and discovered the bodies.

Now, almost one week later, police have released surveillance video showing a person bundled up in the icy weather and walking down the street near the Tepe home around the time of the shooting.

Cops believe the shooting occurred sometime between 2 am and 5 AM. Police also say there were no signs of forced entry and no weapons recovered.

Hilton has officially pulled the keycard on the Minnesota hotel caught in the middle of an ICE firestorm -- after reservations for federal agents were allegedly axed for political reasons -- insisting the company has zero tolerance for any form of discrimination.

In a statement posted to X Tuesday, Hilton said the independently owned and operated hotel -- believed to be the Hampton Inn Lakeville -- had assured the parent company it had resolved the issue ... even pointing to the hotel’s own apology as proof the matter had been addressed.
