6:00 PM PT -- Alec took to Instagram and said he crashed his wife Hilaria's white Range Rover after swerving to avoid a massive garbage truck that cut him off. Alec explained he was with his brother Stephen for the Hamptons Film Festival when it happened, adding, "I crushed my wife's car and I feel bad about that -- but it's all fine. I'm fine, my brother's fine." He ended the clip saying, "Hilaria, I love you more than anything and I’m very proud of you."

5:56 PM PT -- Stephen's rep tells TMZ ... "Stephen is doing fine and is grateful no one was injured. He appreciates the concern and he can confirm that he and Alec are both safe and well."

Alec Baldwin can't seem to catch a break ... because he was just involved in a vehicle crash in The Hamptons, TMZ has learned.

The Oscar-nominated actor and his brother Stephen got into an accident in East Hampton, New York, on Monday when they barreled head-first into a tree as they drove in their Range Rover.
